TD VIGIN-ADVICE PLEASE

edited July 2015 in Poker Chat
                        HI,
This weekend im running a £25,deep stack with 3/4 tables of 9-freeze out in my mates pub.
Its a family orientaded pub and we start at 2p.m.
I will remind the players that strong language, personal verbal attack and any  bad table etiquette will be sanctioned.Obviousl,y there are extreme rare exeptions but I doubt any of these players would warrant immediate ejections.(they re ok bunch)
                                                                    Over-swearing(I reckon) a warning
repeaqt offender?orbit or amount of time sanction?what would you do?
Ive got a decent grip of the game so is there any sites I can  refer to,regarding TD, so I don't get it pear-shaped? Ta.

    Hi Jim,

Common sense allied with feel & touch are the best way forward, but if you want the backing of "Official Rules" so to speak, the TDA Rules are what most Live poker games are - or should - be based upon.

No two players agree on all rules, and it's the same with Cardrooms, they all have local differences to their rules.

However, if you say "we go by TDA Rules" you wont go far wrong. People will still argue of course, it's how society is these days, we don't respect authority as much as we should, but you have to have a base reference point.

You can find the TDA rules
    HERE

Good luck, & let us know how it goes.

Also, if you want a "Tournament Clock" there are numerous sites which offer them free, you simply load it up, dial in the clock, & have your laptop open, so everyone can see the screen.

I won't link to them, as most of them are a bit commercially awkward to post here.

Just google "poker tournament clock free".

    Hi Gills,

First of all, well done for stepping up and taking this on. I'm sure it will be appreciated, although that may not be apparent on the day!

I think the most important thing is to remember it's a pub game. At least some of the players won't have played in a casino before, and personally I think it's best not to keep to TDA rules for this. For example, do you really want to pull people up for a string bet?

If you know a few people there who've played a few times, I'd have a quite word and ask them to try and keep the table in order (maybe even deal!).

    Hope this helps.
    JP.

All great advice so far here.  Common sense and speaking to players like they are players and not naughty children is definitely the way to go.

For a bit of fun here's a trial run spot for you to rule on.  This is a genuine spot which happened the last time I played live and had the floor called over.  I was not involved in the play but was sat at the table.

Player A opens, player B 3bets , Player C calls and player D goes all in.  A, B and C all have at least 2x the stack of D.  Player A says call and looks down at his chips (he's sat the other end of the table from B as well).  Player B says all in and player C folds.  At this point Player B turns over his cards and literally every player apart from Player A sees he has aces, Mr A is still looking down at his chips sorting out the correct change for the first all in.  Suddenly realising there is still action, Mr B turns his cards back over, at which point Mr A pops his head up and asks what the commotion is all about, gets told that Mr B turned his cards over but doesn't get told what they were.

While no one told Mr A what the hand was now Player C, who seemed to like a drink, is trying to shake Mr D's (the first all in) hand and is opening saying how unlucky he has been, repeatedly and loudly.  He never says the hand though.

The floor gets called with Mr A wanting to know if as Mr B turned his cards over once and everyone else saw it, does he get a right to see them before acting.  Mr B would like a penalty on Mr C for his behaviour and for seemingly giving away what he has.  Also everyone wants to know how to finish the action.

You're the TD, what do you do?

                                                                                          Hi Tommy,
thanks for the post and scenario poser.
As the player showed his cards prematurely and one live player saw them then I would insist the other live player sees them too.By turning his cards they stay turned-regardless of position, pot or stacks. As for any action against the shower
-I would warn him/her that any repertition would get an orbit sit-out.
Hope I did the right thing,
                                                                                                                                           Run well my friend,
                                                                                                                                                                      Jim
