As long as you can afford to lose what you have done , I don't see a problem.

Personally, my biggest win was £2k (at a different site) which I immediately withdrew before I had the urge to go crazy at the bigger tables.

All in all I'm running at a loss but it's manageable and I play poker for a bit of fun and banter rather than the financial rewards.

tbh what iv lost is a small amount, and it wasnt like this weeks grocery money,so i can handle it,and i do win..never 2k tho..what tends to happen is i invest £10/£20,build it up to £200 then get on a really bad run,and im back 2 square 1,then i find i start chasing that winning streak which never comes back,ZERO.When u said about withdrawin the 2k str8 away made me think, if you or i or any1 else gets on a winning roll do you/they /i start playing differently(do we get over confident,do we expect 2 win),i tend to think that maybe, i think im not gonna lose,i cant get beat, and when i do lose or get beat i tilt(not in a totally stoopid way)just enuff 2 regularly make dumb decisions/gamble ,think every1s bluffin...

    2 Biggest Wins:

£1500+ (coming 1st in a NL Holdem MTT on another poker site i use to play on)
    £1050 (5th at SPT Manchester)

    Biggest Loss:

£200 (which was amassed as profit in 1 night playing Blackjack but then lost playing NL Holdem on the cash tables on another poker site i use to play on!)

Biggest Win: $1000 with Kings vs Queen Jack vs Ace King! Somehow, we got all the money in pre-flop with board coming Q 10 3 6 J but I four flushed on River!

Most Satisfying Win: Qualifying for The Primo via freeroll and then cashing in 30th for £105! Don't play tournaments that often and this came after deciding to take break and re-build my bankroll from scratch so felt amazing!

Biggest Loss: £345 and 28 hours of my life - I lost that money in two hour session through outdraws and bad play. I spent the next 16 hours just grinding away, winning little pots at varied stakes before going to bed - couldn't sleep as thinking about previous session so three hours later, I was back on the tables and eventually after 12 hour session, I had won back everything I'd donked off! There's no better feeling than winning back what you've lost but that sparked me into withdrawing my bankroll (so I couldn't make same mistakes) and playing for enjoyment again which lead to most satisfying win above!

lol Its gotta be exactly the same?

If someone is finding it easy to lose money, the guy on the recieving end must be finding it easy to win money!?

Didnt Newton have a law for this? Each action has an equal or opposite reaction? somethig like that....??

Its the old argument that my mum n dad n anties n uncles etc always used to say when I talked about poker, "theres only one winner at that game and thats the bookie" haha

For every loser theres always a winner ;)

The Drax law of poker ;)

It's easy to lose money at poker because you don't have to think about it.
It's hard to win money at poker because you have to think, play well and not be unlucky.
The online site always takes a rake so they will be on a guaranteed winner - rather better than a bookie.

Newton's 3rd law of motion states:

"Each action has an equal and opposite reaction"

I deal at a local poker club and get paid £6/hour plus tips. Love it.
  • edited January 2010

Thought it was something like that, level 3, biomechanics! ugh. If sum1 wins a tenner, some1 else loses a tenner, thats an opposit reaction?/result?

Nvm, its still as easy to win as it is to lose tho, its gotta be.

The most I've won is £470. The most I've lost (in one sitting), is £70. But that's irrelevant.

The trick, I think, is to not care. If you can do that, you've got it licked.

If you're passionate about the game; if you really love it; then you will invest any amount available to you, to experience the sheer euphoria of having your patience rewarded from skillful and thoughtful play.

Clearly, there will be times when you make the right decisions, but get the wrong result. But this just makes the victories all the sweeter.

Look upon poker as pure entertainment. Nothing more. The money you put on the table is already dead. Just enjoy the experience.

If you're skint, or trying to make poker your living, then please disregard everything I've just said.

Unfortuantely, I also know someone who lost his house.

He also lost his wife and job. Embezzelled £48k from his employer and lost the lot at casino's. He tried to get it back quick and doubled the amount he stole in the last month to try and get a quick double up.

His employer gave him the option of paying the money back or going to the police. He had to sell his house to raise the money and his wife and kids left him. Shame, he had a cracking job.

The best advice for anyone wanting to play poker.

My biggest single win was $16,500 in a $50,000 mtt (It was a $50 rebuy and actually achieved something in the region of $65,000 total prize-money). Biggest single loss $215 for my mtt entry (this has happened more than once though). I've played a few bigger entries up to $1,000 but always managed to scrape into the cash.

Biggest win - £2000 odd on a Friday Open.

Biggest  loss - $460 in a single session of drunken Blackjack on another site. What made it worse was I had built this up in a couple of weeks from an initial $5. Hated myself for days after that episode.

Biggest win: £149 in one evening from cashing in both the Open and Velocity whilst I was a phone in guest on the show. I withdrew £100 immediately and I am still using the rest as my BR.

Biggest loss: A mere £5.00 in one session of cash when I couldn't hit a thing and £5.50 when I entered a MTT without cashing.

I don't play the big MTT unless I can Sat in or get in via a freeroll.

Biggest Win - £24 for finishing first in a freeroll during my first week here, didn't really know anything about poker just beginners luck.

Biggest Loss - £3.30 on the orfordable every week.

As you can see I'm a big spender!
