A few Q's to the DYM specialists.

Hi,

For variety and a personal challenge I am currently playing some DYM's. Playing low - £0.30 - £3.30 (what evers running) and aim to play 100 at least and see how I feel about them. 

Being the form of poker with the lowest varience what sample size would you need to see how your getting on? 

What is the ROI we are aiming for?

200 games and 60% win rate....roi hard to say when your playing different levels but say 10% roi.

100 games isnt a bad sample when beginning tbh, obv more is better! As gerad says you need to aim for 60% as at 55% you only breakeven due to rake.

Further..have a look into what kind of rakeback you can achieve, SnGs are all about volume so rakeback could be up to 50% of what you make.

also ROI .. aim for minimum 5% then with rakeback ontop your at a healthy level, 10% is more what the best DYM players will get, cheerio

1000 games and anything over 58% ur doing well at low stakes which is about 5-6 % roi.

At higher stakes you probably make more through rake back. Think some of the top guys have 2-3% roi on the big games 33s and 55s but they get alot through rake back.

Stay away from anything lower than 3.30 simply because of the rake. For example

30p and 60p games you need to win 60% to break even

1.15 games you need to win 57.5% to break even

2.25 games you need to win 56.25% to break even

3.30 games you need to win 55% to break even

As you can see 30p and 60p games are nearly unbeatable. I played these at the start and i couldnt beat the the 60p ones.

When i moved up to 2.25s and 3.30s BOOM winning player at them. I hit around 59%. Also the standard is around the same in all of these levels i wish i had of moved up much sooner.

Ive been playing around with this, maybe there are mistakes. ill delete if there are.

Like stuarty117 says, the higher stakes and Sky rewards, things improve . and I dont know how to factor any of that in

Responses above are good.

The only advice I'd give is don't play the micro ones. Unless you've withdraw a load of your roll or whatever and aint rolled to do it, playing the micro ones where the rake is over 10% will massively hinder your ROI. 10% rake is tough enough to eek out 5%+ ROI, trying to do it with 15% (in some cases 20%) rake is just ridic.

For a start Craig I would read John Connor's DYM blog in the DYM thread section if your new to the format, it's a really good read.

And as others have said start at £3.30 anything lower your fighting a losing battle, also weekends and evenings the tables are a little softer if you can avoid some of the regs, good luck.

Some wonderful feedback, thanks very much. Gave me a lot to think about and I think I am going to re-evaluate my goals and really stick to see if I can do it. Adding some variety to my poker nights.

 Hi Craig, Macacgirl1 had a challenge over 100 PLO8 dyms, the top performer managed 70%. I reckon you have to consistently achieve 60% per 100 games to make it worthwhile.

I play DYMs, because I like the format and the fact that they do not last more than 1 Hour.  I will not make a fortune, but I can currently achieve 60%+, so do make a small profit.  The variance is definitely a lot less than tournaments.

That's really good Craig.

I imagine that there are very high volume Dym players who average 60%+

To be fair, I usually play microstakes and exclusively PLO8, I reckon It may be a different story at NLH.
