"It never rains....." - a quick review of UKOPS Day One

edited December 2015 in Poker Chat

Quite the day yesterday, one way & another.

It was a challenging day in many ways.

8 UKOPS events took place, with Guarantees totalling £46,000. Only one of the 8 covered, (the big Rebuy), one came in bang on the number, & 6 missed, with aggregate overlay coming in at £5,813. Some serious value there for the players, oioi.

To compound matters, the River Aire burst it's banks in Leeds, & the only access to SB&G's office today is by canoe or dinghy, & I'm not kidding.

Here's the scene in Leeds City Centre last night. (click to enlarge)

Many areas in the North are also flooded, so never mind missing UKOPS Guarantees, players knocking it in, or the SB&G staff trying to access the office today (meetings were held though the night to make contingency plans), thoughts go out to everyone affected by the floods, especially those who had their homes flooded. Not nice on Boxing Day, not nice on any day.

A mention to Sam, too, who is running the UKOPS ship (or canoe?), he's got a right headache on his hands today even to try to access the office. All the roads around the Office remain flooded & there is no pedestrian access that is not thigh deep.

It never rains, eh?

A few shoutouts to Community regulars.

Action began at 2pm with the £5.50 Rebuy & this attracted many of the serious guys, & they did very well it seems.

In the 4pm BH, the only Community names I recognized were 72off5uit (£229.80) & SUPERNOVA (£85.96).

SUPERNOVA (Sharon) is one of the most improved players here & elsewhere in the last 18 months, & she was coached for some time by Neil Channing back in his Black Belt days.

Next up was the 6pm £3,000 BH, & a few familiar faces here.

dudstolucko was runner-up for around £362, and that man bearlyther finalled again, adding another £195 to his bulging pockets.

PLO8 hotpot suzy666 cashed, as did MTT specialist & all round good guy Wacko90.

Just out of the money, but claiming a few bounties, were Solack & LmfaoAllin

The £1,000 Turbo Wurbo @ 7pm was a chance for some of the regular guys to get their name in lights, & it was great to see QUICKFEET cash for just over £50, also devil_tear.

Meanwhile, striking a blow for Team OAP was Essexphil who is a year older than dollie & Andrew1947.

Next up was the day's headliner, the £25,000 Main Event, & a tidy lump of overlay by way of a belated if unintended Xmas present from Sky Poker.

Pride of place went to one of Sky Poke's most prolific MTT winners, GSmith13.

2nd cashes of the day went to EssexPhil, 72off5uit, & dustolucko.

RSPCA12 & FeelGroggy had nice cashes, & the most improved DYM player on Sky Poker, RLT16 scored, too.

Grandad49, who attended a Luton SPT with his grand-daughter a few years ago, & one of the original Sky Poker players & a Viva Las Vegas winner from a few years back, HAYSIE, from Swansea, was in the frame.

What a day MAXALLY had too, with £329 from this, plus his beloved Stoke City thumping the beleaguered Louis van Galling-Going-Gone? Man United, & I believe he had a winning bet or two on the game as well. His cup runneth over, & he promised me by way of celebration a whinge-free 2016.

Them floods look mad... valiant effort to canoe-it to work today! Pokerstars employees would of called in sick. Pretenders.

GSmith is a beast, very well done.

The Mini at 8.30 was another overlay affair, but it never bothered RSPCA12 who was runner-up for his 2nd successive cash, in fact he was just one spot shy of a Final Table Jackpot bonus, almost a year since he last had some Final Table Jackpot moolah.

Team OAP saw Andrew1947 in the money as well as cash for ESSEXPHIL,  & there was a 2nd cash for Team Handsome Dude's Wacko90.

MikeyCB got a few bob, & SuperShaz, SUPERNOVA, cashed again, too.

The penultimate event of Day One was the £4,000 Guaranteed Rebuy, the only UKOPS event of the day that sailed past it's Guarantee.

devil_tear, having cashed earlier in the day, got the job done properly this time & topped the table with £1,336, whilst GSmith13, busy winning the Main, min cashed for just under a ton.

TommyD emulated Spurs & was the nearly man, but must have taken consolation from Arsenal's drubbing on the south coast.

Good to see Scotty77 cash, he's had a rough ride lately, both here & over in the USA. Can't keep a good man down.

The day concluded with the £6,000 Speed BH, which fell just 2 shy of the Guarantee, the honours going to Sky Poker Cash Game stalwart SenorBegs, aka Simon Hemsworth.

2nd cashes of the day went to MikeyCB & the ubiquitious Solack.

That's it, good luck everyone in Day Two.

Yup, the floods are pretty bad right across the North of England, gotta feel for those affected.

Think you are right about GSmith13, I'm told he's a beast. Pretty good at poker, too.

    Congrats on your win.
