Is this too nitty?

What do you guys think?  I don't know much about this villain, and I am very aware of the fact that I am being outdrawn alot lately.  Once the second four hits and he suddenly bets out, alarm bells started ringing and I slowed right down.  Is there anything necessarily wrong with this cautious play or am I just leaving money behind?

Personally I think you did the right thing. The amount of times I have ignored a small pair thinking I still have the best hand with a flush or straight and getting caught by a boat or something.

It looks like a stopper bet from here, just wanting to see a cheap showdown. I think you should still reraise on turn to find out if he actually has the four or not.

Yes you should always re raise the turn here to find out exactly where you are.

Yes you should always re raise the turn here to find out exactly where you are.

I play these stakes because I am relatively new to the game.  I don't see what bearing the stakes have at how to play this particular hand optimally.  Incidentally the only other way I might play it would be to shove the turn as I only have around about a pot-size bet left.
