help i'm off to vegas

edited January 2016 in Poker Chat
Hello everyone,
I'm off to las vegas in febuary. This is my 3rd trip so I know my way around a bit.
I'm looking at entering a tournament and playing a couple of afternoons of cash.
Any help or tips about where to go will be much appreciated.
There's a tournament at the wynn I want to enter $140 buy in,has anyone played there?
Or would you recommend somewhere else?
I have played cash at the Bellagio & venetian. I liked the Bellagio poker room but would like to try somewhere else?
Also any storys poker or vegas related would be good to hear.
My poker story started in vegas.I'd played a few times with friends and thought I could play(how wrong I was).I told the mrs to go out for the afternoon as I was going to the venetian poker room(I could be a while).
I put my $300 on the table feeling great.I even won a small pot.I'd already worked out a couple at the table in my novice's head within 15 mins.15 mins later I was heading back to my room,1 of the players I thought I'd worked out went all in after the flop,i had 8 10,thought my pair of 10s was good but no trips, money gone felt like i'd been beaten up lol.
That was 5 yrs ago and I came back and decided to give sky poker a go,i'm hooked now and enjoy my poker online.
thanks theo

    Lucky you.

Wynn is a lovely room, but really, most of them are.

Try a few MTT's Downtown, too, at Golden Nugget & Binions. Golden Nugget has a gorgeous cardroom, & a fine selection of affordable MTT's. Binions is unique, it's tired, dirty, run down, & almost a health hazard, but just the greatest place to play some fun poker.

Personally, I'd avoid PH, which totally sucks, & these days Caesars don't offer much, but most of the others are worth a try.

Aria do good daily MTTs, at 1pm and 7pm, $125 buy in and a decent structure with 30 min blinds. The afternoon one is more popular than the evening one from experience, but the evening one follows on perfectly from a 3-6pm all you can drink session at Blondies.....

I thought TK was spot on-most Strip rooms are excellent. PH is only good when got a Series on.

Personally, I like the MGM Grand cos the players are awful, and the Monte Carlo for friendliness. Aria and Wynn both good-there are plenty of apps that will set out times/buy-ins of tournies-that plus a map means I have been guided by when I bust out of one to go to the next-gl

If your going to play a bit of cash poker,
i would suggest the mirage, its not the largest poker room, but its been recently refurbished.
And they have alot of side offers, such as cracked aces, high hand jackpots,
eg $500 for a royal flush,$250 for a straight flush,$100 for four of a kind.
They do the same at the stratosphere, but theres normally only cash action in the evening, and its at the top of the strip,
and also its slightly chavvy, but the tables are loose and aggresive!
    hope that helps

Caesars downgraded their previously wonderful room around 18 months ago, but they still run 4 daily Tourneys, you can see them HERE

A list of "all today's Tourneys", at ALL the various Vegas poker rooms, which is updated every day, is HERE

    Hi Theo,
I was there last June and stayed centrally. In 10 days I played 28 tournaments at various locations, Aria, Bally's, Caesars, Flamingo, Harrahas, Mirage, Treasure Island and one trip downtown to Golden Nugget.  The 7pm touny at the Nugget has great structure and the structure at the Mirage is also very good.  If you want a bit of turbo then Flamingo and Harrahs have very steep blinds. I also looked in at Planet Hollywood, but was not impressed.
I don't play cash but the Mirage, as others have said, has a good reputation. I also recall comments that the cash tables at Harrahs and Flamingo were soft.
Whilst you can get tournament lists online for most Casinos, I would recommend having  an hours' walk from Wynn and pick up a schedule from each of the Casinos poker rooms in the locality.
    Enjoy
