Was the WSOP founded by a Murderer, or a good bloke?

edited June 2016 in Poker Chat

Here's another piece on the WSOP, mainly as to it's founder, Benny Binion.

Quite the character.....

And for that, perhaps we can forgive the occasional murder

Not sure the families of his victims would forgive him.

creating a world tournament based on gambling does sound like the sort of thing started by a bad person. These days you've got a whole host of criminal activity going on because of money.

When first created I can't imagine poker being known as the game of skill that it''s known as now. The poker game itself does have some well known and common bad periods such as tilt or throwing chips. A well known part of poker is bluffingg your opponent away from a hand in other words trying to steal the pot.

probably alot easier to show that scary poker face as an evil man that as a happy man

    nice read

    Very interesting read.

Villain & 'hero', they are not mutually exclusive IMO. Even a murderous so and so is capable of the odd eureka moment :)
