Before poker became mainstream did you ever get yourself into any situations where you've thought to yourself mmm could be in a wee spot of bother here

I definitely have always tried to avoid the sort of dodgy home games and any game where there was a good chance of not getting paid or being threatened with violence or physically assaulted. I would generally say that people play in these things because the games are often expected to be soft with lots of inexperienced players but I do find the rake is always massive and that makes up for it.

Bit of a boring answer but I have always preferred casinos with the security on the door, the impartial staff to help with rulings, the fact that people can go to the counter and get money if they need it so you never get owed your winnings, the cameras so you can see all transactions whether bets or changing money with no argument and the security against cheating. I like to be able to just leave when I want to.

I'm not saying I haven't played with some really dodgy people...I certainly have...I've always just tried to be really friendly and avoid situations that might put me in danger.
