Should/can sky seperate Vegas Package flight/accom funds?

edited June 2017 in Poker Chat
When people win a vegas package does the accom/flight funds just get deposited into their accounts as playable money? Reason being i know a couple of people that haven't attended vegas/punta packages because they have spent their flight money, which i know is their own fault, but isn't it a massive waste of a package that someone else would of loved to have? I know this year i have seen afew whos qualified blow alot, and talk about using it for other gambling activities in chat. Isn't there a way around this that could stop qualifiers spending it, e/g sky book the flights after? Or am i just being stupid as it is their money that they have won :]

    Some people might not be able to get time off work or may have already booked their (family) holidays, or may not even be allowed into USA due to some indiscretion in their past! ..... (:D}

This year (unlike previously) the flight money was put into a bank account, rather than the Sky account. That is responsible of Sky.

Still, people can always blow the money. The cynical part of me says that no poker site will ever separate all the funds. Let's take the £4k Vegas package as an example. My guesstimates are:-

    Flight money £1k
    Hotel £700-1k
    Tournament £1k
    Entertainment/Profit £1k-1.3k

That's not knocking Sky-all sites operate a similar way, and Sky provide more by way of entertainment than most, if not all.

Sky could book the flights I know of certain other sites who have taken that approach in the past.

That is a lot of extra work for Sky though and why should Sky go to all that extra bother due to some people not acting in a responsible manner. At the end of the day the player will have a much better understanding of the flights and times that are suitable to them than Sky does so the current setup makes sense.

I don't see why Sky couldn't allow packages to be transferred/sold on though. Sky are very clear in the T&C's that packages cannot be transferred to other players so no complaints. I am not sure why it has to be that way though. I know one of the sites running package qualifiers this year are openly advertising that packages can be transferred/sold to other players on that site.

I am thoroughly sure that Sky have thought this through and have their reasons for stating that packages are not transferable. I would also say that the packages are excellent and Sky make sure everyone has a great time on these trips. Therefore anyone just grabbing the £1k paid into their accounts is missing out big time! However I get this could be down to work commitments etc. This is why it would be ideal if packages could be sold on to other Sky members though.

Yeah wasn't dismissing sky for sure, its a great promotion for all. I just think its a shame that people don't attend, meaning seats hotels go to waste. I guess there is a bit of degen in everyone playing (more for some than others) so i find it easy to understand them spewing the lot.

It seems a shame that Sky may have booked a certain number of rooms and catered for a certain number of people to be entertained when out there yet due to someone not having enough self control these rooms etc might be wasted.

Is there a possibility that, in the event of a no show, rooms etc could be allocated to other sky regulars that might be in Vegas under their own steam? No promises or anything but it would seem like a nice option if possible.

What if the person who no showed was just delayed though and walked into their room to a big surprise

It would indeed be fantastic if allowed.  I'm in the same position as you this year Markycash - didn't manage to qualify yet would love to go lol.  Like yourself I also have flights booked - but in my case I booked them back in March using airmiles so I can cancel the flights for no loss as long as I cancel a few days before takeoff.  I'd happily have bought the left over unused parts of the package from someone who couldn't go.  In an ideal world I'd still go anyway and just book hotel and buy in directly - but I can't justify paying out the full amount for me to enjoy a punt as I'd never consider paying £2k minimum for entry to a game of poker (I have to add the buyin together with hotel cost as that's the true cost to me personally lol - not to mention spending money etc).

Hope there are no "no shows" this year as it's such an amazing opportunity for the qualifiers.

Good luck all out there - run golden x

I'm sure Sky would check before reallocating rooms!
