Haysie, would say "lay it down" :-)

Looks like Haysie got two pair, as hard and all as it is to fold I'd say you made the right call.

I dont know Haysie though so Im sure you would have a better read on what he is likely to have when playing like that.

interesting as this is sort of mess i get myself in. me i jam on his butt in this spot on that board praying he not got a set of 3s or 64 of diamonds.
im thinking he bluffing here mate but you still got a decent stack. not easy thats for certain

I think I am checking the turn in this spot in the hope of getting some river action.

If Haysie has a couple of broadway cards he has at best top pair and could also have a lot of combos which completely missed. Therefore I wouldn't be too worried about losing turn value to hopefully extract value on the river (either from opponent reacting to your turn check by bluffing river or by it going check/bet/call on the river if opponent has any showdown value).

The same can be said for a lot of pocket pairs which haven't found a set, the turn check may set you up to extract value on the river.

While we may be losing a street of value by checking the turn we could equally be gaining a street of action if opponent was floating the flop and has air.

If Haysie has found a set then the turn check also controls the pot a bit.

Also by checking the turn you may get a more solid read on what opponent has by his reaction on the river. If bet sizing or history between you make you think there is weakness on river or you have opponent on a top pair type hand you would have the option of reraising to extract maximum value still.

Edit: just realised I didn't actually answer the question and offered a lot of thoughts which were not asked for and may seem irrelevant. Apologies for this, wasn't the intention. For me the turn is just where it all gets so difficult, hence the ramblings above.

As played I think it is really difficult to know where you are and just boils down to a read on opponent or the history between you both.

What kind of 2 pair combos do you see Haysie having here having called the pre flop raise?

    +1

Looks like air/top pair or a set

I guess there are some possible 2 pair combos but not many.

    Post of the year.

Tricky spot, tough to lay down but if you're beat you're probs in a coffin. Think a fold is good overall, though might talk myself into thinking 56dd or similar and go with it.

    Then hate myself.

Did you go on to run deep in the tourney? if so, then it was a good fold. If you went out not long after in a marginal spot then it was a bad fold. Personally i think i'd just go with it most of the time, a lot of the time it would depend on how many big blinds you'd have left if you find the fold also.

Excellent post and love the fact that you realised you hadn't answered the original question so added the last bit .....and still didn't answer the question! Like many university graduates you showed a wonderful ability to turn a one word answer into a thesis, love it. (absolutely not trolling, just having a laugh as I'm sure you'll appreciate before anyone slates me).

My opinion? Fold. I expect him to beat my one pair 90% of the time here, almost certainly a set.

Well I'd never be folding here against someone who is not a nit *cough haysie cough* , you're so far up in your range and will surely be overfolding if you fold this hand.
