Sky Poker Forums is upgrading its look! Stay tuned for the big reveal!
No more pot limit in Vegas.
As of yesterday, the State of Nevada, which includes Las Vegas, regulated the sale, possession & use of cannabis.
I'm not entirely sure I have a strong view on this either way, though I'd probably take the view that I'd rather the stuff did not exist, but as it does, regulating it's sale and use is likely a good thing.
I'm also not sure it makes much difference to the amount consumed - the stench of marijuana, aka pot, weed, dope, grass, or whatever you want to call it - is everywhere here, especially during & after tournament breaks, when so many folks go outside & light up a spliff.
I loathe that disgusting aroma, & it slightly offends me that folks pollute "my" air with the stuff. But as I smoked cigarettes for the best part of 55 or 60 years, until March of this year, I guess I might stand accused of hypocrisy.
Guilty as charged, M'Lord.

Do you remember Sky Poker's Turbo Tuesday?
It was, err, a bit "fast".
Maybe not as fast as the WSOP "Crazy Eights" thing that is currently in play, sponsored by a poker room the name of which evades me right now.
How about this for an attrition rate?
Day 1A - 1,506 runners. How many survivors? 58.
Day 1B - 1,664 runners. How many survivors? 84.
Now that's proper fast.
It's always a bone of contention with poker players - the reg fee on Poker Tournaments.
Online, it's generally 10%.
Regular readers of this Forum will know that every few months some bright spark will start a thread complaining that 10% is over the top.
Well them boys need to come out to Las Vegas & see some of the reg fees charged here.
There's a $120 MTT at Orleans Casino, Las Vegas, tomorrow, which charges a 28% reg fee. ($94 + $26).
They are also running an $80 MTT next week, which has 38% (THIRTY EIGHT PER CENT) reg fee. ($58 + $22).
The juice Downtown at Binions & Golden Nugget is typically between 17.5% & 25%.
I played a $365 one a few days go which was $300 + $65 (21.7%).
I also played a $250 @ Nugget, which was $200 + $50, which is 25%.
These are all re-entries, so if we fire a second bullet, we are paying $100 of Reg Fees on a $200 MTT. ($50%).
I saw several guys fire 4 bullets. You do the math.
Am I complaining? Absolutely not. We all have the choice - play them or don't. If I don't like the Reg Fee I don't play, it's that simple. Bellyaching ain't gonna make a dot of difference, trust me, even though some folks seem to bellyache for a living.
These things get decent sized fields, too.
I can't say I have the inside line on this, but I think we can be pretty sure Sky Poker won't be getting any funny ideas about Orleans Casino style Reg Fees.
10%? It's a bargain.
My next scheduled Tourney will be on Wednesday, at the lovely Venetian Hotel.
It's a real beauty - a two day, $1,100 PLO/PLO8/Big O "Mix".
Lovely job.
The Venetian is pretty classy. Lovely leather chairs, lots of valets serving free drinks, nice tables, good dealers.
All the tables at The Venetian have Auto Shuffle machines, which speeds play up enormously. After a hand, the dealer presses a button & a little lid pops up on the Table containing a freshly shuffled deck of cards - the dealer just has to cut it. At the same time they pop the "old" deck into the Auto Shuffler, press the button & the lid closes.
It's pretty neat, but those Auto Shuffler cost serious money, believe me.
Inevitably, Team Rigged think that there is something dodgy with Auto Shufflers. Jeez, these boys need to learn to think.
How about this for the dumbest thing you ever heard?
On consecutive hands on a 9 handed table, we saw EXACTLY the same flop.
Some bright spark then complained - seriously - that the dealer needed to learn to shuffle better.
Oh my Lord.
Actually, that's not QUITE the dumbest thing I ever heard, to be fair.
In all my years in poker, that prize still goes to the lad who reckoned that the theatrical pause that some Online Poker sites use for dramatic effect between the turn & river on an all-in was because "the software is searching for the card to beat me".
I doubt anyone can ever top that. It's both funny, & worrying, on so many levels.
I'm guessing they think that they are real cards, rather than a line of code.
LIPS starts next week here in Vegas, at Golden Nugget.
LIPS?
Ladies International Poker Series.
I'm not at all convinced that name bestows any favours on female poker players.
There is also a "High Heels Poker Tour".
God give me strength.
Who are these condescending idiots who come up with these names? No wonder it's a struggle to get more ladies playing poker.
Those of us that love the 4 & 5 card game find that pretty sad, but the truth is, most people prefer NLH.
If I were King for a day, I'd ban NLH. Not sure I'd last a whole day though, I'd soon be overthrown.
