WSOP Main Event, Day 1C

edited July 2017 in Poker Chat

And a very good morning to you all. It's an almost bearable 36c here today, though it's early yet & will no doubt warm up later.

Before we look at what the late Jimmy Young would have called today's recipe, a quick recap on yesterday.

Sky Poker had 4 qualifiers playing the WSOP Main Event, & all 4 made Day 2. I think that's a quite splendid achievement, & I congratulate them all heartily.

    Who, & how many?

    Tedson - 37,700

    Jiggawhat - 8,700

    GSmith13 - 51,600

    Boggo - 95,200

So all 4 of them will return tomorrow (Tuesday) @ 11am (7pm UK) for Day 2. Day 2 will consist of all survivors from Days 1A & 1B, however, they will be kept separate.

Then, on Wednesday, the survivors from day 1C will play their Day 2. For reasons which are unclear, Wednesday's play will begin at Noon, not 11am.

On Thursday, all the flights then combine.

Today, the WSOP Main Event will be graced by none other than Sky Poker's roving & raving ambasador, Neil Channing.

I could not begin to estimate how many times he has played the WSOP Main, but I bet it's north of 25. Even so, I bet it still gives him a tingle in his willy.

    Ha, thank you Jon.

May I ask - if it's not too personal - is JonTSnow your real name, if not, why did you choose that alias?

It rolls off the tongue so nicely, rather like, say, ice-cream, or custard skin.

    Today will be MONSTA.

Day 1A had just under 800 entrants, Day 1B had just over 2,000.

Today? Your guess is as good as mine, but I expct over 4,000, which is more than 1A & 1B combined.

Can you even begin to imagine that?

4,000 - FOUR THOUSAND - players in one building in one day. Try to imagine the biggest UK cardroom you know, & think what their capacity is. The sheer scale of all things in Las Vegas is beyond imagination.

And guess how much will be ponied up by players today? $40 MILLION $$$'s.

    Just wow.

Meanwhile, every country has homeless people, & in many countries folks struggle to find enough to eat.

    Funny old world.

It's all relative of course, but it does not behove poker players to take themselves too seriously imo.

Poker is, & should be, just fun, fun, fun.

The Registration rooms are heaving, queues galore, & the Rio corridor is rammed.

Play starts in just 15 minutes.

No sign of Lord Channing yet. Not like him to arrive at the last minute.

    Is TommyD still in? ;)
  • edited July 2017

With just minutes to SU&D, there are, literally, hundreds of folk in the queue to buy in.

Just think - each & every one of them has $10,000 in their pocket. It's a muggers paradise.

Think what a task the Rio Security has, too. They'll have some $40 million, mostly in CASH behind those cages today. One of these days they'll get turned over, for sure.

In all, the Main Event accumulated cash will come to about $70 milly, & of course it all has to be paid out again over the coming days. Minus, of course, the Reg Fee etc.

Incidentally, 6% of the Prize Pool is withheld, being 4.2% Reg Fees, & 1.8% "dealers & staff" whatever that means. Very reasonable, that.

Would love to see what happened if Sky Poker withheld 1.8% of players entry fees for "staff", rofl.

Still no sign of Mr C.

Guess I'm gonn have to go hunting for him.

Just the 400 tables to scan, then.

FOUR HUNDRED tables, can you imagine. Allowing for "pushes" they need 500 Dealers today for the Main Event alone. Ever wondered what they will all be doing next week?

400 poker tables, 400 dealer chairs, 4,000 player's chairs, 400 dealer buttons, & - wait for it - the equivelant of 200 million in chips.

Don't even ask - or THINK - about the toilets, or, as they are known over here, "restrooms".

At least all the walking helps make up for the rising choc ice count.
Good luck to Mr C, any other Sky players in today that you know of?

The Rio Cardroom on a big day like today is perhaps the only place in Vegas where there is no music.

There is music in all the casinos, on the sidewalks, at the Bellagio Fountains & Mirage Volcano, in the Elevators, Restrooms, EVERYWHERE. It drives me chuffing nuts. I have a Walkman & a bag of cassettes if I want to listen to music, and I can choose my own music, I don't like Billy Joel or that frumpy Adele woman, & I have a mind and a brain so I prefer to choose WHEN I want music, & WHAT & WHO I want to listen to. Who wants to listen to music someone else has chosen?

But in that Rio Cardroom there is total silence, except for one sound - the sound of 4,000 chip stacks being riffled, almost like a plague of crickets.

    Great sound, great atmo.

The WSOP Main is the greatest.

If the suits are willing to drop the reg fee to 4.2% I'm sure no-one would begrudge you 2.8% for staff

Great work as always Tikay catching up when I can

Not that I know of, Nick.

Don't even ask about the choc ice count, it's embarrassing.

When I get home, I'm due to get my cholesterol tested, to see if it has reduced, as required. Dreading the result of that. Not sure choc ices & burgers are ideal for reducing cholestrol.

Did you know that according to the British Heart Foundation, there are two types of cholesterol?

With unbeleivable clarity, they are known as "good cholesterol" & "bad cholesterol".

I'm not making this up, go take a look.

Yes, but we are only reporting on 4 of them, plus Mr Channing.
  • edited July 2017

Meanwhile, by the miracle of text & Twitter, Mr Channing's location has been identfied - Tan 59.

He tells me he has previously played 16 WSOP Main Events, & made Day Two in 15 of them.

    Impressive.

OK, I'm off to see what sort of mood he is in.

    The usual range is;

    Grumpy

    Very Grumpy

    Chronically Grumpy

    On good days, however, he can be;

    Talkative

    Very talkative

    Non-stop talkative.

It's when Grumpy & Talkative combine that it gets difficult.

Mr Channing has been located, photo to follow.

He is in good heart, non-Grumpy but talking at the max. Happy talking.

    He Tweeted this, too;

    1. Played three laps of the table, had AQ three times, AK once, aces and kings. Kings it came Ace high and Aces it came KxxKK and I folded.

    1. "Had the Kings again. Flopped a King, turned a King. Won 2bbs. Is there a way I can save some of these hands and take them a bit later?"
