WSOP Main Event, Day 3

edited July 2017 in Poker Chat

Good morning, good morning from Las Vegas where we are enjoying a cloudless sky & it's 37C already.

So, Day 3 has arrived, & Sky Poker qualifier - &  more importantly, AIRLINE PILOT - Boggo, is still in.

He is not exactly deep-stacked - 38,000 - so with blinds at 1,000-2,000/300, he will need to make a move quite soon.

As ever, FCHD - one f those who make a positive contribution to is forum - has done some research to assist Boggo.

    Here you go;

1 Matthew Hyman (USA) 214K. Was a regular in Super High Rollers but nothing since 2015. $290K cash in a WPT Championhip in 2013, and $430 in a Super High Roller ($100K buyin) in 2014

2 Benjamin Nicolas (FRA) 94K. Not many cashes but did come 23rd in an EPT main event in Barcelona in 2012 which accounts for over />$50K of his $77K total. Only recorded cash in 2017 was in Senegal of all places. No WSOP career cashes.

3 Slade Fisher (NZL) 62K. $200K cashes, $61K of which was in the 2012 Aussie Millions and $24K at the 2013 EPT Grand Final. His cash in the Millionaire Maker ($6K) was his first ever cash in North America

4 Ryan Johnson (USA) 52K. Has cashed 10 times, all in the last 12 months and all in one in Vegas. Best for $6549 at a Venetian deepstack last June, a third of his total cashes. Most of his success has come in Venetian Deepstacks, but did make one WSOP cash last year when 777th in the 2016 Colossus

5 David Boggon (GBR) 38K. Our hero.

6 Christopher Savage (USA) 116K. Someone who has actually won MTTs. 2 in 2005 for a total of over $100K, and one at a WSOP Circuit Stop in Biloxi for $126K last September. No cashes at the WSOP proper though.

7 Ryan Breslin (USA) 121K. 3 WSOP cashes last year and one this year all around the $3K mark, but has done better in a couple of deepstacks at the Venetian last month, twice over $10K

8 Alexander Saladze (CAN) 48K. $4K in an event in Montreal in 2013, $611 in a Rio Daily Deepstack in 2014 and that's it

9 David Wilhoit (USA) 117K. Another player with no cashes since 2014, 7 career cashes from 2011-14, all at the WSOP in NLH, including successive ME scores, 246th in 2011 and 438th in 2012.

Boggo came across early this morning, & as ever, I pumped him non-stop about his job as a Pilot with Cathay Pacific. He flies, almost exclusively, the Boeing 777. That's a "heavy".

Prior to being a Commercial Pilot in Civil Aviation, he was in the RAF & flew the VTOL Harrier "Jump Jets".

    Absolutely fascinating man.

It should be plane sailing for David today. Best of luck to you. Enjoy every moment.

They have played the WSOP rumpy-pumpy music, & are giving the usual speeches now.

    SU&D is imminent.

    Loving the punnage.

These messages of support - well, just the 1 so far - really do help Boggo.

The "Shuffle Up & Deal" announcement today will be done by KevMath. Nice touch, & well deserved.

Well done David for getting this far, and you'll be in the money before you bag your chips later; you'll need a bit of run good, but I'm sure the Viva Las Vegas squad will be willing you into the money. Good luck and lets hope we see you running deep into next week.  Most of all enjoy it, as not many people get to play this great event.

    Good Luck

With 2572 players remaining, and 1084 to be paid, Jack Effel has told players to be prepared to play until the bubble bursts tonight. And, when the tournament hits one of its biggest moments, ESPN will be showing.... something else. No mainstream TV coverage of Day 3 at all.

It's walked to the Button, who makes it 5,000 to go on Boggo's Big Blind.

Boggo can't really call too often here, it's raise or fold, and he knows that. And CALLS.

The pot is therefore around 38,000. (Blinds 1,000-2,000/300).

    Flop:

    9-J-9 (rainbow).

This is a very polarised flop. I've no idea what that means, by the way, but I've seen the kids & serious heads say it.

Boggo, first to speak, taps the table.

Button goes into a long dwell, staring all he while at Boggo.

    Then he bets 5,500.

    Boggo calls quite quickly.

    Pot now about 49,000.

    Turn:

    9-J-9-10.

Scary turn, that, a lot of draws get there. No flush is possible.

    Boggo checks.

Button does another long dwell thing. And checks behind. Good sign that, I think.

    River;

    Mini dwell by Boggo.

    Then he announces;

    ALL-IN

Button now goes into the mother of all dwells.

Then he looks at his cards again. We can reasonably assume they have not changed.

    Now he stares at Boggo.

Then he arches an eyebrow & stares at the board.

This dwell has taken over 5 minutes already.

Boggo is staring dead ahead, at the board, from Seat 5.

Button examines his hole cards again. They've still not changed.

Button slowly cuts out the call, 27,200. Every chip of it.

    Stares at Boggo again.

Boggo is statuesque, staring at the board.

    Button looks puzzled.

He examines his hole cards again. Yup, you've guessed, they've not changed.

He does some chip twiddling, then picks up the 27,200 as if to call. Then looks at Boggo again.

It looks like he is going to make the call.......

Not sure, but I think, allowing for blinds & antes, that takes Boggo north of 50,000.

That's a good thing, imo. Will be a very late night though, as play slows to a crawl near the bubble. Ask Jac.

It turns out I know the fella to Boggo's immediate right, Ryan Johnson, as we shared a few Big O cash tables last week.

He plays at a place called "Talking Stick" in Arizona, & is a full time live cash pro. He also has a house in Hawaii where his wife lives, & he splits his life between his two homes, one in Arizona, the other in Hawaii. WAL.

Arizona is full, during the winter, of what are known as "snowbirds". These are folks from the colder parts of North America, & more often, Canada, who come south for the warmer weather every winter.

And Ryan makes a good living fleecing - plucking maybe? - these snowbirds.

He's a lovely man, too, a proper respectful, well-mannered gentleman.

    Nice start,

Sit dead still, anchor anything that might move or shake, and stare straight at the board is what I go for in those situations too.

Not sure if it makes me look super confident, or guilty as hell.

Thanks all for the updates and information,

    Good luck Boggo,

    Ed.

One hour of play now completed.

How is Boggo, who began with 37,900, doing?

Reminder, blinds, for the next hour, are 1,000-2,000/300.

So 80,000 is, allowing for antes, about 35 Bigs or so?
