In Response to Re: Are there any London Tourneys? : Best bets for tournies of the smaller size (bear in mind smaller is like 20-50 min really). Big Slick - Surrey Royal - Morden (this place never f k ing stops texting you!) International - North london just off old street Equal chances - walthamstow. Posted by beaneh
There is also "The Western", not that I'd recommend it, or any other "semi-licensed" Venue.
For fully-licensed Venues, the choice is thin. The Vic, in Edgware Road, The Sportsman in Marble Arch, or Palm Beach on Mayfair is about it really. The Palm Beach is a bit posh, they have a Phillipino Gentleman in the Gents toilet who is most helpful, & does everything you could possibly wish. Hands you the soap, the towel, opens the door for you, everything.
If it's not too far, Luton-G is a "working-mens" Casino, with cash games starting at 50p - £1, & a lot of Sky-Pokerers play there.

The guy in the vic toilets only wishes you luck if you tip him!!! It's so tilting, you could be stuck any amount of money and you go for a quick wee and he expects you to hand him money because he happens to be standing in the toilet throughout the day.

That geezer earns more money than ANYONE at The Vic! Basically, it costs a quid to have a leak.
I've tipped a few times when i'm winning but considering that I don't feel comfortable how shall we say 'going to the loo properly ie a cubicle' when a gentleman is standing just outside he could definitely offer a better service!!
1. The International in Old Street. The tournaments are around £25, with about 40 runners during the day. I like the daytime tournies (as I can reach the final table, and still get back for kids bath time!), which start at 2pm (the tournament, not bath time).
2. Big Slick in Croydon is good, with a pretty good standard of play. Entry fees vary massively, as they do so many different formats during the week, but for around £40, they have some blinding deep stack tournaments (15,000 chips with half hour clock).
3. I still have a soft spot for Roy Houghton's Loose Cannon's in Cannon Street, although it's sadly not what it once was since the Council temporarily shut them down. That's around £13 entry, so not too much, and I like the cavernous brick location (wish they'd put the heaters on earlier during winter).
4. There's a nice chappie that runs a great thing called Bubble Poker. All of his meets attract large fields, and they're held in good pubs around London... and are only £8 entrance. very friendly too.
If I'm drunk enough, I might play a little cash at The G-Casino in Leicester Square (the standard of play can be utterly changeable, and hilarious). If I'm utterly langered, I then might try the Empire too.
I'd like to try the Vic sometime, but must admit to being a bit intimidated by it. I'm not especially comfortale wandering into any clique or club, where you see the likes if Ian Frazer and some other confident looking swarthy guys, sitting at a table with £15,000 in front of them...
All of the above are very accessible (well, Big Slicks is a pain), and can be found on the webbernet. Also, leagues like Redtooth are more than likely already doing a really cheap poker league in a pub close to you already.
