If you begin with 5000 chips and have 6000 after the first hour then you can not rebuy because you have more than your original stack - but - you can add on another 5000 to your stack - making it 11000!!

What if you have 2000 after an hour? Is it always an hour?

Rebuys can normally be made for the first hour. Usually to a maximum of twice the initial starting stack. Some sites have unlimited rebuys and some have a maximum number.

The add-on comes at the end of the rebuy period and is the same amount of chips or more. Most sites offer more for the add-on as an incentive to reach the guaranteed prize pool.

    so for example:

Starting chips 1500 ....... immediate (prior to tournament starting) rebuy available to max of 3000 chips. Further rebuys up to a max of 3000 (2x1500) at any one time, for the first hour, Then a single add-on of 3000 chips at close of rebuy period.

There are variations on this but that's the general idea.

Just a word of caution to anyone not familiar with these. They can and do get very expensive. You may intend to only rebuy once or twice but the table will be very very loose and the number of all-ins can be huge in first hour. I never enter a rebuy unless I can afford at least 4 rebuys and an add-on.

rebuys are normally if you lose all your chips within a certain stage you can Re Buy.

then after this certain stage is finished then if you want to add on, you can add on.

    e.g

start at 1500 chips anything under 1500 chips e.g 1499 you can rebuy or if you lose all chips you can rebuy for 1500 chips.

then at the end of the re buy stage, say you have 3000 chips you can then add on 1500 chips making 4500.... or whatever amount you have, you can add on for the value of the add on.

so 15000 chips you can add on for another 1500 giving you 16500 chips.

Thanks for that, i think i get it now. The tourney i was looking at is at a casino, has one add on of 4000. So i assume everyone will get the cahnce to get the 4000 at the end of the first hour?

Yes regardless of chip stack. Add ons are not subject to a max number of chips in stack so the CL can take it the same as the short stack.

one thing to remember is that if its only an add on but not a re-buy, of u lose your stack before the end of the first hour, u will be eliminated and not allowed your add on.
