Progress, table selection, and being streetwise.....

edited March 2010 in Poker Chat

Ive had my best 10 days of poker for months recently. I put this down to a few things, playing tournaments alot more "sensibly" - looking at cash bubbles, laddering up, being patient, avoiding flips early etc etc. My Tourny form on S Scope was "hot" yesterday, and the graph is going steeply upwards.

My cash results are consistant, and Im making decent money, pretty quickly, rather than winning abit, losing abit winning alot, then spewing it and hovering around even.

My ROI "the grind style" over the last 10 days is 600%.

I attribute my cash game success, to one key thing, TABLE SELECTION. I never used to bother with this, just find two NL50 tables with empty seats, and plonk myself down and take anyone on.

But Iv realised, why make it hard for myself? I play any limit between NL20 and NL100, giving me loads n loads of tables to avoid the regular players, who I am farmiliar with now. Its not a fear factor as such, just simply why play a hard game when you can find an easy one? -

I've ditched the ego, and readily admit Im not as good as I thought I was (working with Tuck made me realise this). However, I believe I can become as good, as I once thought I was! follow? lol.

The question Im asking, is when are the cash tables easiest? I played through the night, on thursday, and Friday, and found the games were alot easier.

THEN

Last night, at 3am, I was looking for a game, and I couldn't bealievvvveeee how tough the tables were, on every single mid stakes level! There were 4/5 regs at each table, even regs from NL100 down as low as NL40. Where had all the easy money gone???

Ive taken advice from 1 guy, Scotty, who I havent seen around for a while to play through the night rather than all afternoon, and I'ts definitely worked. Are the tables weak every night of the week other than Sundays? Was that a one off????

At 1 point last night I left my 2 N30 tables, as they were so tough, and moved up to nl100 where Ihad a brief winning session against 4 unknown players (to me) - and of course the sharks caught up. lol

Any times/days when you guys find the cash tables easier ?

Thanx, DOHHHH

P.S - Ive just been referred to an episode of HSP on Ptube, its just recently been uploaded. There was a hand, which made me feel more nervous watching it, than any hand Ive ever played with my own money. I was unbelievble, you can probably guess who was involved, but I wnt spoil it, definitely reccomend you take a look.

Wow - Who is this man posting unders Dohhhhh's account lol

I don't play anywhere near the amount of cash that you do but from an outsiders point of view i would say that the tables will become easier through the night on Friday & Saturday with sunday night rocking up as people have to go back to work & Kids back at school (not that i'm suggesting kids play on here lol)

In example:- I can play monday through saturday with no problems. The tables get easier friday and saturday due to the drunks but i can't play a sunday because not only do i have to get my work gear done and any work i should have been doing at home all week finished but i have to get all the kids bath - bed - uniforms etc etc. So by the time i would be able to sit down and play i can't be bothered.

In short Dohhhh you don't make any money on sundays because i'm not around to donate it lol

lol aces - your probably one of the hottest players on the site recently arent ya, so I would class a game with you in as one of the harder games to beat (there are a few guys on fire atm, maybe its me getting to know more names, or maybe some guys r just running hot, who knows)

So Im targeting Friday and Saturday nights, problem with that is, If I do one, I cant do the other, due to hangover issues. lol

Im gonna see how it goes through the night on Tuesday and Thursday, hopefully this will work, and if not, I may have to look at sacrificing my tourny hours (7 till 11) - to target the cash tables during prime hours....

Thanx for ur reply tho, and get to Ptube and watch that vid! wowwwww  - and Yes blackfish found it first !!!

    table selection is the key

i have played a lot of cash this weekend and am quite happy to sit out leave a table when it becomes full of profitable or even better than that players at 1-2 level

it is very hard to argue that anybody has much of an edge on here at 1-2 when the table is full of good solid players in holdem anyway.

a lot of players have to big egos and whilst there is nothing wrong with trying to improve your game against good players playing them all the time wont be very profitable
