Pretty much most football films are dire, especially them starring Danny Dyer.

My favourate one has to be Shot at Glory (I think it was called that) with Ally McCoist. that was quite good.

The very worst is GreenStreet 2. I would reccomend that just for how rubbish it is.

Never seen it in full but I think it was called GOAL

Funny thing was...my brother was at St James park when some filming was taking place and the main character...Santiago Munez (I think) was doing some "on field" filming during half-time. A request for the St James faithful to chant "Munez Munez" was greeted with much laughter and swearing (I believe)

The Damned United is pretty good if you ignore the controversy caused by the book - just enjoy for what it is and it's actually a good, nostalgic look at football during that era! As for "Up n Under" I agree with DOHHHHHHH - not seen it for years but man, naked Janus got me through some good teen years :-)

Really must get round to watching The Damned United, and the one that Mr Miyagi mentioned starring Ally McCoist.

As for Samantha Janus...she still makes me "angry" well into my thirties.

Some good shouts by everyone though, and great thread btw.

I once went to the pictures with the missus, but the film we were planning to see was sold out. Rather than watch nothing, we ended up watching a Footy film starring Sean Bean, revolving around Sheffield Utd. Cheesier than a pot of Dairylea...but the missus (who HATES football) enjoyed it.

I never thought about that.....but in fairness that Emily Lloyd would have got it if she wanted it as well......

Even after all these years, it's got to be Escape to Victory.

Pele, Bobby Moore, Ossie Ardiles and err... Sylvester Stallone and some Ipswich players play the Nazis for their freedom!

Utterly ridiculous and brilliant at the same time.

    Escape to Victory

It starred most of my team . Ipswich

Absolutely hate all footy hooligan films. Rubbish.

    Escape to victory is best.

My favourite footy film has to Fever Pitch by nick hornby. Yes being a gooner makes me slightly biased but watching that can instantly bring back so many memories of that season...and that game v liverpool was when they were good and no team ever got 2 clear goals to win at anfield.

    Those glory glory days.1983

Only Spurs supporters might know this film.

It was about when Tottenham won the 1960-61 double, A female reporter has flashbacks back to 1961, The GREAT Danny Blanchflower put an appearance in.

    Brilliant film

when you were younger did you ever dream of going to a cup final?

If you did you would enjoy this

Just read yesterday they are making an updated version of Escape to Victory.

Starring Vinnie Jones..... so we know how amazing that is going to be.

It also said David Beckham was being lined up to play a part.

On the subject, one I forgot which is a great film, Shaolin Soccer.

Does 'KES' count lol... serious... great scene on a freezing cold school field, lil' skinny kidz playin footy, durin a p.e. lesson, and the 'Northern Monkey' P.E teacher, [great actor, no offence], Smashes em around all over the place! I'ts hilarious, He won't let em have the ball!!
Someone will know his name it's bugging me...He played God in something 'Arty'

Great film that's not been mentioned, really abstract, about Zenedine Zidane, only seen about 1/2 of it, drunk one nite!! Brilliant, in that no dialogue, camera's just follow him throughout a 'Real' match at some unusual angles, like a documentary. Cant remem. title or director, but it was someone surprising I think, must be my alziem. kicking in again. Defo worth a watch for the football purist!! Can anyone help with title etc??

The Hoolie Films all a bit unreal, but take the silly lil' Yank out of 'Green Street', and that'l be close, characters in that, pretty like the boyz 'involved'

    Love, The 'Hitman' x
