abuse at the tables!

edited March 2010 in Poker Chat
we have all experienced this,is it right to fight back?and is anything in place to penalise muppets who sit down at a table to talk sh*t and hardly play at all?

just report it. I usually try defuse the situation as 90% of the time it washes over my back so as a result i never worry about what people say.

Ignore most of it and even join in in a friendly banter way, usually ends up they calm down and you end up having a laugh.
I hate reporting people but have done it once in the past with a player that was vile, twisted and seemed to like my mother

    (it wasn't mickjenn btw)

we all love banter yes but some peole are way beyond that.i dont get annoyed if the abuser is not within choking distance, but have seen others getting railed badly, and it does seem to affect thier play.

You must report it to Customer Care (Info at bottom of page), there is no place on Sky Poker for them.

If you move your cursor over a player's avatar at the table it will say if he is chat banned.

Not always as it's just reported whatever is in the 'Address' portion of your account, so if you've entered "London" it'll say that, but if you've changed it to "Chat Banned" it'll say that. During TKO I changed mine to "Team Orford" and "Team Lisa-Marie" - you can basically enter anything but make sure you change it back to your proper address before making a deposit or withdrawal!

Well some people are a little quick off the mark when a bad beat happens, and YES I have reported someone in the past, and if they continue to be abusive this is the recommended path, however, I have had this happen a few times since and a lot of the time if you take it quite light heartedly, I have ended up having a great conversation with the original poster of the abuse.

I am not condoning it, however, sometimes it's just a heat of the moment thing and nothing more, but continuous abuse must be reported.

I have reported before and in some circumstances, it is the ONLY course of action to take. A laugh and a bit of banter is fine, even been called a C*@% before and its water off a ducks back tbh. However when someone suggested I was making love to my kids then it was a no brainer.....Report...Chat-Ban.

At the end of the day, anyone can be a bare-knuckle keyboard hard-man....just try and imagine which people can talk the talk AND walk the walk. You would probably laugh.

TBH, most of the abuse that goes on at the tables really doesn't bother me. In fact, I actually find most of it really quite funny when someone goes off on one.  I've no problems with a bit of swearing personally (although I accept some people don't like it) but I do believe that there's a line that really shouldn't be crossed.

I've reported someone once because I felt they crossed that line even though none of it was aimed at me personally & I wouldn't hesitate to do it again. Call me a c*** or whatever if it makes you feel better or if you want to blow off steam, I'm a big boy & I can deal with it, but just don't cross the line that's been suggested here.

Also, fwiw, some time ago someone suggested a kind of "report abuse" button to be added to the tables (apologies to whoever it was cos I can't remember!). I think this is a great idea as a lot of people really can't be bothered to go through the process of contacting the customer care team.

Pretty much what I said too Jay. I think most people would be of the same thinking.

A "Report Abuse" button would NEVER work sadly. The hard of thinking would use it for bad beats, which they may consider as abuse....;0)

nice idea bob would make life easier, but the over sensitive would be reporting like mad and there might be problems with hasty reporting,or just reports made out of pure spite with little substance.

I'm chat banned currently, and have put it as my location so people know I'm not ignoring them. Defo isn't mandatory.

a lot of players thoroughly deserve some mild abuse, and it would be unfair not to give it to them, if someone insults your intelligence, why not do the same to them?
