I've never played in a TKO before and was wondering if there are any team tactics like avoiding going up against other team mates or is it just a big free for all?

I would say just play your game. It's not like you're going to lay down quad aces just because you would knock out a teammate if you called. There is bound to be some "friendly fire" casualties, but as long as you put any chips won to good use, you honour your fallen comrade(s)!
