Players 'away' on tables

edited March 2010 in Poker Chat
The last few months have bought a lot of dabate about players being away at the tables, here is what happened to me last night. I entered an early morning deepstack, there were 5 of us, one player was away. After 50 minutes id knocked the other three players out, with only the away player left. He had 3500 chips and i had 21500, and blinds were 40/80, i then took all of his chips from him by raising, and won £10, however during this time, a player who had earlier been knocked out by me, railed the table, and was saying what i was doing was not right! After picking myself up off the floor with laughter, i told him he was having a laugh, and he said he was serious, that he thought it was bad etiquette to do this, anyway if there are anymore players out their that wish to play a deepy with me, please dont feel obligated to turn up!! cheers (and i slept like a baby after lol)

I agree with you. It's really annoying and sometimes costly when the table is slowed up by players "away". Last night on a BH (small stakes), player that followed me was away. This meant every time he was BB, the big stacks on early play would move all in or large bet and basically take the SB out.

Anyone that misses 5 or more hands should be removed from the table. Connection problems shouldn't take that long to get back in.

I really don't get this? what would have been the polite thing to do? sit out and let blinds pass between the 2 of you until there so high your both all in from the blinds?

your railer....................... what a tool lol

They're an annoyance that you just have to get used to.

    Some players at low buy-ins DYMs use going away as a deliberate tactic, they sit away for ages with 2 aims;

    1. 3 other players get eliminated and the away player doubles without having to do anything.

    2. With everybody raising to try and steal the away player's blinds they wait for AA or KK before clicking 'I'm back' and shoving all-in.

My other half had just sat at a DYM a while back when our internet connection went down, she was well peeved because she couldn't get back online at all and must have been away until the table ended. When she checked the results later she was amazed to see she finished had 2nd and doubled her stake.

I was actually saying to the wife, that the away player would cash for nothing, but at the end of the game it said congratulations you came 1st and won £10, so i was even more happy, i though 5 players was 1st and second, but it wasnt.

LOL, ive opened a can of worms again!! If you cant beat an away player, give the game up i say lool, As for players getting involved in pots against others with poor hole cards just to try to get the away players blinds, well they deserve to get beat, just cos they are away doesnt mean you have to get involved, unless your last to act, and there are no callers.

Congratulations on the win Loony, I don't see a thing wrong with the way you acted as the player had been away for the whole game, to be honest I think he was lucky to make it to second place.

So this other guy seriously wanted u just to sit out as well? The away guy had long enough to get there! I say u did the absolute right thing and I'd have done the same without a moments hesitation!

PS This was a deepstack and the other players had busted after only 50 minutes? Wow!

Id like to say it was my good play, but it was probably the amber nectar on a saturday night, with 5 players on a saturday night/sunday morning, it goes all in whether its 2000 chips, 5000 chips/ 5 min blind or 12 minute blind lol

lol, make hay while the sun shines, any opportunity u take,take,take..online poker etiquette is different to poker etiquette..
2 players playing heads up ,live ,for cash, only they know about it..player 1 has £49000,player 2 just has £1000 left(hes been 'raped' by player 1)..player 1 then has heart attack(and is probably dead)does player 2,'make sure he's dead' and run off with all the money or phone for ambulance/coroner and leave with his £1000....?

just been on dym 4 players left and 1 sat out, agreed 2 fold 2 each other till sat out was gone, then we could play poker ( the sat out was sat out from start of game ) which is fair why should dym without playing hand.

If my Lt goes down I would not expect anyone to wait around for me! And would get the game over as quick as possible if they was away! Swings and roundabouts! In Response to Players 'away' on tables:

This though is blatent cheating and collusion.
The guy paid his money, if he is away that is his choice.

By agreeing to fold to each other, you are actively colluding to knock him out and this is cheating whether he is sat at the table or not.
