My thought was why would he bet so much after hitting his monster?

    For me a definite fold.

I see this kind of play a lot on the DYM tables, and even though I'm thinking they're just trying to steal it with a massive overbet, I'd rather just wait for a better spot and a better hand, so let them have this one.

    Hi Craig,
You have to look at the flop, one over card and the flush draw. The turn brings a straight draw and a poss flush, so what are you beating, basically a bluff.
YOU HAVE SECOND PAIR ON VERY "WET" BOARD.
You want my opinion, GIVE IT UP AND FOLD, you would still be in to get a BETTER SPOT.
Unless you have really strong hand, which second pair is not, save your chips, if the guy then shows the bluff fair enough, put notes on him to that effect. At 25/50 you still have a lot of play.
I'm not criticising you but that's what i would do, hope this helps.

Nice post Mr Mbro, Basically yes i did think it was a bluff and at the time i thought it was his mistake and in the long run he will not get paid for hands like that. But after your post I am now starting to think that it wasnt worht it to find out.

    Cheers.

I would fold for sure but, out of interest, why didn't you bet the turn?

After he called the folp bet i put him on the ace, so checked the turn knowing if he bet it would be a simple fold. After he checked it raised my eyebrows with concern to him having the ace.

I like that thinking but if you were worried about the ace on the turn (i.e. you were already behind) why call the all in on the river? The river didnt help you so if you were behind on the turn you were at best still behind on the river so the call is strange and thats why I muck it :)

I think i read into it to much and should have just folded to the ace!

    Hi Craig,
I've been having another look at this, and i'll give you another thought.
You bet 150 on the flop and got one caller, at this point you could put him on an ace or flush draw or straight draw. As there was no preflop raise i would say more like the draws.
When the turn brings the possible flush, you check and at that point he suck you in by checking behind.
Now this is where you could have saved some chips, by betting 300/450. If you get ant resistance at that point you could check fold the river and save 1900/2000 chips and i said earlier still have enough chips to play with.
What some players dont do is, ASK THE QUESTION WITH A BET, BUT LISTEN TO THE ANSWER.
    Food for thought i hope.

he took you to valuetown on the river, this is hardly ever a bluff

    Fold preflop.

Having called preflop, I don't mind the bet on the flop but after getting called I'm finished with the hand. Too many hands are beating you.

Personally I'd have laid down 7J from the beginning, but thats just my style of play.

Ouch I would of ran a mile after the flop. I use the rule the the big blind has the big hand(not always true, but I use to always think that the blinds played with rubish because thats the way the poker gods worked).
Two spades scary, one ace very scary, three spades and the ace you should of got out of dodge.

Bin J7 preflop, if you want to play it at least play it with a raise so that T7 will fold. Your bet on the flop was fine, but you got a caller and he check called. Either bet again on the turn or give it up and check fold. When you called at the end you thought you was ahead, if so then why not bet the turn? The over bet is usually a monster hoping you think it is a bluff.

I was so confussed !!!! lol

I thought this hand was cash at 1st and thought you had lost 2 1/2 grand, OH MY GOD how could you lose so much with only 2nd pair on that board!!! That was my 1st thought LOL.

I then read mr mbro's post and realised you were only talking about chips PHHEEEWW !!! (i have in the last 5 minutes managed to close my mouth from the shock)

    Hi Craig

You have to ask yourself; what did he call on the flop with?

It has to be one of these...in probable order:
    Flush draw
    Mid Pair (JT etc)
    Two Pair
    Top Pair (weak Kicker)
    Gut shot
    Pocket 3's

I think it's unlikely, Mid Pair, top pair or missed gutshot go all in.

The ones that could make this play are:
Flush, Set, Two Pair and possibly the straight.

The big overbet is commonly used when big hands are made

       hi craig

i think i would have bet turn to see where i was if he called i would check river see what he bets
so i still have an option to get off it
