How much have you got behind?... what happens if someone bluffs the answer??

edited April 2010 in Poker Chat
Hey forum (my followers), right... we have all seen it on tv when watching poker, someone asks for a chip count from someone else, was just wondering what happens if the guy lies about how much he has?

For example, a lot of preflop action between 2 players:

Asker: How much have you got back... (holding JJ and considering whether to shove or fold)

Askee: *Lies*... tells the 'asker' that he has a lot less than he actually does... (holding AA and hoping the other guy shooooooooooooooooooooooooves)

so what happens here ??
well... the askee is a complete pr*ck at least lol.

nah never played live, but when you watch it on tv and a player asks another how much they have behind the player just gives a rough inidication rather than the dealer counting it or even getting involved.

played in a live game ,not so long back ,and i got re raised on the river with my top 2 pair ,so i asked the player in these words (how much have u got behind )and he replys (about another 7000)at the time i had 30000 behind and the pot was 6000......so i reraised allin .............turns out he wins the hand with a set and after a chip count he announces ,he has 21000 behind in chips and i say u told me 7000 ,and his reply was (u asked me how much i had behind ,i thought u meant how many 1000 chips i had behind my stack)ended up having to pay out this cheat ,not sure what the rules are on this ,i wasnt playing in a casino ,but i was not happy

Live players are skanks, and constantly angle shoot and try and gain advantages. Trust no one to be correct or be able to stack chips correctly. Ask the dealer if you are unsure in anyway, the player doesn't have to answer your question, so just keep asking the dealer,
