Weekend footy betting (Sat 10th)

edited April 2010 in The Shed
Good Summary Jay....You are right. Because we are on the "Vinegar Strokes" so to speak it is a jungle out there for footy betting. Just look at Darlington for example....World Beaters in the last few games.

Good luck against the Bin-Dippers on Saturday m8.

It's crunch time people & that's not always good news for us punters. Some teams have pretty much nothing to play for & some teams have it all to play for, all of which can make it very tricky for us. I've come mighty close in the last couple of weeks & hopefully I'll nail 'em all tomorrow.

3 different bets for me tomorrow.

    Main Acca:

    Forest to beat Ipswich (H) @ 4/5
    Millwall to beat Gillingham (H) @ 4/11
Norwich to beat MK Dons (H) @ 4/7
    Rochdale to beat Torquay (A) @ 11/10
    Luton to beat Tamworth (A) @ 8/13

These 5 are currently paying a tidy 12/1

Forest have been strong at the City Ground all season & are now on the brink of clinching their play off place. Ipswich are the draw specialists in the division having finished all square in 18 of their 42 games so far but they've only won 4 away from Portman Road all season. Forest don't drop too many points at home with last week's draw against Cardiff being only their 2nd there all season. They should be too strong to see off an Ipswich side with little to play for now & depending on Blackpool's result at Newcastle, 3 points will realistically (if not quite mathematically) secure their play off spot.
As much as it pains me to see Millwall pushing for promotion, you've got to give credit where it's due because they've simply been fantastic at home all season. One defeat from 20 there with only 12 goals conceded says it all. They're hoping to nick the last automatic promotion spot which is currently occupied by Swindon. They're only 1 point behind them with a superior goal difference so this is exactly the kind of game they want right now. Gillingham are the only team in League 1 without a win on the road so far. They've only taken 6 points from a possible 60 away from Priestfield, scoring 13 in the process so it ain't gonna get any easier here.
Mathematically Norwich need 3 more wins from their remaining 6 games to clinch promotion back to the championship & they're up against a Dons side who are now pretty much out of the play off picture. Norwich have won 5 of their last 6 at Carrow Road whilst Milton Keynes have lost 3 & drawn 2 of their last 5 away. I doubt this'll be a rout but almost certainly a home win.
Rochdale seem to be getting a little jittery now that their 1st promotion in 35 years is within touching distance. They lost at Chesterfield last weekend (killing one of my acca's in the process!) & drew at home with promotion rivals Bournemouth in midweek. However, it's here at Plainmoor that they can get back on track knowing that 3 points here coupled with results going their way elsewhere will clicnh promotion. Despite taking 4 points in their last 2 games, Torquay are battling relegation for a reason. Despite beating Shrewsbury at home last week Torquay had only won 1 of their previous 7 at Plainmoor & have struggled against the divisions top sides all season.
Luton are still vying for top spot in the conference & are looking for their 10th consecutive league win at Tamworth. They've scored a whopping 32 goals in their last 10 league games & have already beaten them at Kenilworth Road this season. At a quick glance Tamworth have been in decent form themselves of late, unbeaten in 6. However, look a bit deeper & you'll find that their 3 victories have all come against teams fighting relegation with draws against Mansfield, Oxford & York.

    Long Shot Acca:

West Ham to beat Sunderland (H) @ 11/10
    Newcastle to beat Blackpool (H) @ 4/6
    Swindon to beat Colchester (A) @ 6/4
Southampton to beat Charlton (H) @ EVENS
Notts Co to beat Northampton (A) @ 11/8

These 5 are paying a big 41/1 so worth a small dabble.

Out of form West Ham to beat in form Sunderland you say? Form is a funny thing & comes to a halt when you least expect it. Sunderland have won once away from home all season & don't have a good record at Upton Park. Of the last 7 meetings there Sunderland have won once and lost the other 6. My beloved hammers picked up a well earned point at Goodison last week & know that this is a must win game.
The only reason Newcastle are in my long shot rather than my main acca is purely because they've already clinched promotion. Whilst they'll still want to win the division they're up against an in form Blackpool team who have won their last 4 on the bounce & are only a point outside the play offs. I can't see them winning here but it's possible they could sneak a point.
Given that Swindon are currently the form team of the division (jointly with Millwall) the 6/4 that's being offered here is almost worth a single punt as well. They're unbeaten in 6, winning 5 of them & thumped Leeds at Elland Road last week. In contrast Colchester are winless in their last 7 & it's this run that has seen them slip out of the play off zone.
Southampton would be pushing for the play offs themselves if it wasn't for the 10 point deduction & have looked good at St Marys only losing 3 there all season. Charlton are only 2 points from the 2nd automatic spot but just like they did to Leeds a few weeks ago, I fancy Southampton to nick this in a tight game.
Northampton & Notts Co are the form teams in League 2 with both unbeaten in their last 7. Northampton are looking to squeeze into the play offs but I fancy County in this one. They're currently 5 points behind leaders Rochdale with a game in hand & this would be a huge 3 points if they can get them here.

    Both teams to score Acca:

    Doncaster/West Brom @ 8/11
    Cardiff/Reading @ 10/11
    Palace/QPR @ 10/11
    Burton/Bradford @ 8/11
    Queen of the South/Inverness @ 4/5

    These 5 are paying 18/1

Not a market I usually dabble with but as long as both teams score I couldn't give a flying fig about the end result. The great thing with this is that even if someone's being beat 5-0 with 5 minutes to go your bet's still live right up until the final whistle.

And let's not forget it's the national at Aintree tomorrow. As I know absolutely nothing about the horses I'll be looking for a decent tip elsewhere!

Good luck with your bets peeps.

    Here goes....

Due to teams warming up after 90% of the season has passed...I shall be avoiding outcomes and concentrating on Goals instead. The new carefree abandon displayed by some teams will ensure many odd results....and busted coupons.

To Score 2 or more goals...

    WEST HAM @ 11/10

    MIDDLESBRO @ 10/11

    SHEFF UTD @ 11/10

    PLYMOUTH @ 11/4

    LINCOLN @ 5/2

    PORT VALE @ 11/8

    ALLOA @ 10/11

And these 2 to have over 2.5 goals in the game

    COLCHESTER V SWINDON @ 1/1

    CHESTERFIELD V DAGENHAM & REDBRIDGE @ 10/11

Doing these in 7, 8 folds and an acca.

    GL TO ALL TODAY.

Sigh - 1 good thing about your 1/9 banker losing - is it gives you time to re-bet before 3pm.

Same teams, added Forest, Mn City and 1/2 more, if the rest of the first bets come in, I might check my slip!

    Depressed already! DOHH

Always annoying when it's the 1st game of the day to kill you off.

cant understand y sunderland are 11 to 4 unreal they beat spurs last weekend wot a bet to be on 2day easy money lets hope ha
  • edited April 2010
flushando, probably the biggest reason why Sunderland are 11/4 is because they've only won once on the road all season which came at Bolton on the opening day.
  • edited April 2010
Well it looks as though my main acca has gone unless Rochdale can perform some kind of miracle at Torquay. On the flip side my other 2 ain't looking to bad. The only team not winning on my long shot at the moment is Swindon & tbh, if I had to choose one of them to be in that position at this stage it would've been them.
  • edited April 2010
Money won on betting today = £0

3 points at home to Sunderland while Burnley pick up their first away win of the season at Hull = PRICELESS

    GET IN!!!!!!!

I've decided to go for a small European acca tonight as well.

Villareal to beat Sporting Gijon (H) @ 4/9
Montpellier to beat Le Mans (A) @ 6/5
AZ Alkmaar to beat NEC Nijmegan (A) @ 4/7
Porto to beat Rio Ave (A) @ 2/5

    These 4 are paying 11/2

Also tonight is El Classico, Real Madrid vs Barcelona. There are arguments to back both teams in this game but to be honest, I think you're best off leaving the match result bets well alone. However, there are a few tempters available for the game & these would be my pick of them:

Special Bet: Ronaldo OR Messi to score the 1st goal @ 6/4
Both Ronaldo & Messi to score in 90 mins @ 7/2
    Ronaldo 1st goal @ 4/1
    Messi 1st goal @ 4/1
Ronaldo to score in 90 mins @ EVENS
Messi to score in 90 mins @ EVENS
    Ronaldo hat trick @ 25/1
    Messi hat trick @ 25/1

Like I said at the beginning of my OP, it's crunch time now & it seems to do funny things to teams (although in fairness there have been some real surprise results popping up all season too).

Well there's still a few weeks to go in the season yet & then we've got the World Cup of course so plenty of room to find a few winners yet.
