Sitting deep, turn an absolute monster...

This is from a hand I played on Friday night at local £1/2 casino cash game.

I'm sitting with a stack of around £450 at this point and my opponent is sitting with around the same.

I get QQ in mid position, 1 limper so far, I raise it to £12, SB calls as does the limper, who is a WILD fish.

Flop comes down

8h9hQh.

SB checks, wild fish bets £34. I think for a minute and know he has been betting his draws very aggressively. I decide on a very large re-raise and put it up to £125. SB folds and the wild guy SNAP calls.

I then get a dream turn, another 8 pairing the board and giving me the boat.

opponent checks.

I bet £100. He hums and haws for a while, tries to bargain with me about if he calls the £100 can we agree no more betting on the river. In the end he shows me his hand and folds. He had AJ offsuit with the J of hearts.

Anyhow the dealer ran the river and the river came the Ah, so if I'd checked i'd have gotten a decent amount of my opponent on the river.

I was criticised by a few players on the table for betting the turn (I do not respect any of these guys opinions tbh), I completely disagreed with them and I was wondering what you guys thought?

For me, if he is chasing a flush I have to charge him, as if the river blanks I'm obviously not getting any more out of him then, he wasn't likely to bluff the missed draw. Also if he has a made hand like a flush or trip 8's with A hearts then he will stay with his hand then too.

Surely I have to bet the turn, correct?

I think you played it perfectly - £100 into a pot of about £300 is fine. If he has the ace flush or maybe trips/two pair he may call and you want to build the pot in case he hits big so you should maximise how much you get paid if that happens.

    Nh, wp.

Live regulars seem to think that they know everything about Poker and that they're always right, which simply isn't the case the vast majority of the time and so you are absolutely correct to disrespect their opinions and ignore what they preach.

You were absolutely correct to make that turn-bet, and it was a good bet, too. Quite how the villian could call £91 more on the flop and not call £100 on the turn id almost never know (but this depends on his stack which we do not know), but since he's already committed ~£140 to the pot you're well within your rights to expect him to call that bet.

Betting here is very often to be a win-win. If he has the draw, he's probably going to pay to see the river and will almost definitely stack off if he hits and when he doesnt hit we've still got 2 streets of value out of him. If he has more of a made hand, and he's as wild a fish as you say, we're definitely getting value on the turn and possibly some more on the river.

Checking behind on the turn never guarantees you more value on the river than if you had just bet the turn.

Def you played it perfectly and I agree with the guys above everyone thinks they are Pro/world experts not everyone is so you can ignore alot of it, its just banter if you ask me! Top players really keep quiet they never want to give away any edge! As regards your betting if you didn't bet out to charge these guys it could be painful, they may have hit their draws, you would be sick at loosing to them big time!
Betting the streets is wise with an aggressive player who loves his draws!
.....................................................................................Can you tell me that guys name? so i can clean him next!
