bad language and abuse

hi i'm mike i joined sky poker 6 weeks ago and have really enjoyed the experience.before that i played on pokerstars.just for play money or the odd free roll.i joined sky poker because the games are played in pounds not dollars and also it doesn't allow players from america which seem to be by popular consent better players than us brits and as i am a novice player i need all the help i can get.but one thing that has saddened me is the amount of abuse i have received in the notes section on the odd occasion i have knocked someone out of a game and last night topped the lot.i won't give the players name but i was in a £1.15 double your money sit and go and when this particular player was knocked out i  recieved the sort of abuse that i'm not even able to print in this section  and we were only playing for a pound for gods sake.that is something where i think pokerstars and most american poker sites that i have heard about knock spots off skypoker because they will not tolerate such abuse  even to the point (i have heard) where they have banned players from there site.i therefore hope skypoker takes the same approach because its not nice when your 9 year old daughter is looking over your shoulder cheering you on only to see her daddy being called every name under the sun by a complete stranger.so come on skypoker sort this problem out.and to the rest of the players out there who are abusive to other players if you don't like to lose go to a play money table or take up snap....

£1 or £1000 it doesnt matter. Personally I dont swear and abuse people. If this is a problem in your life I envy you. You must have a very easy life...

Get a grip Strat.... it's about poker ettiquette.. and we've all had bad beats made mistakes and lost hands and tournies.. it's about how you want to be ''spoken'' to and treated at the tables.
There is no need for abuse of any sort, you pay your money and take your chance. Had the players daughter not been there then maybe the abuse would not have seemed as bad, having said that and more to the point..what's a 9 year old doing watching Daddy gamble..what sort of example is that?

    I love the English language:

Maybe this person could also simply ask nicely and calmly ? No need to "shout"  :-)

have had abuse handed out to me in the past ,and i only play low stakes d.y.m. games tend to ignore it even when it may in a sense be partially justified e.g.calling against an all in with absolutely nothing and flopping a winning hand{magic innit ha ha} but have a theory think most of these dudes who give out abuse are realy cowards who hide behind thier anonimity so very easy to give it large hiding behind a screen

This is a valid point, it shouldn't be happening.

Also people should be mindful of the do and donts in poker. I am also sick of people slow rolling and putting things like "I hope am good" in the chat box or "good luck" or "good game" and then turning over the nutz.

What is the point in that!!!

No not at all, as rich has said just report it. the best thing to do just put ul and if they carry on ignore, click no chat or report it. a £1.15 dym player doing it is pathetic really but you will get a few, if your worried about your daughter seeing it then i really advise no chat as you never know what people will put and although they ban rude words there are easy ways around it

Chin up we're not all like it

bad beats happen I always say "well done nh"! These guys that abuse players for making bad calls are missing the point we need players to make mistakes to win money.

So ignore them and if anyone abuses me I dont mind as it means they have just help me improve my bank roll, abuse every day please lol

Just to add why does sky not give you the option to block chat from individual players to your chat box, I am sure some sites have this option??
  • edited August 2010
Hi Mike, I agree with you this shouldnt be allowed, though I cant say I've lead an entirely blameless life in this respect. I think one of the plus points for sky is its a lot friendlier than any of the larger sites and you are likely to bump into and want chat to players you've come across before.

If this really bothers you and you play on PC you can switch to mini view and you wont see the chat box at all.

    Hi Mike,
Just found this post - to be honest, this is my first post - even tho ive been playing on sky poker since january. Ive been abused a few times, all persoanl stuff - things like lucky ****, even been called a banker once!
The reason im responding now, is because of something i saw in the chat box recently, in one of the August freerolls of all things. I had been moved tables four times without actually playing a hand and saw in the chat 'lucky **** **** ur dead mum'
Personal insults are common on low - micro stakes; where i play. I dont trade or post insults myself and prefer to type 'nh - wp'. But '*** ur dead mum' struck me as being totally wrong. I even did a screen capture as I was going to report it, but thought after, the person to which the abuse was directed at, should be the one to take that action.

I think its a personal choice, you can either ignore it, or report it - where im sure sky will do something if you do contact them. I doubt Sky want their 'customers' to be abused in anyway.

Anyway, thats my 2p worth - gd luck at the tables

    Si

to be honest customer services dont do much i had someone tell me he wished i got cancer all he got was another chat ban he actually thought getting chat banned wae funny what does this achive nothing
  • edited August 2010
thats disappointing - thought they may have done something. Complete ban on playing for a short period and a warning of a full ban if it happens after. Maybe tho - sky views the idiots custom as valuable as the rest of us - business I suppose.

btw - I wrote abuse is common at low- micro stakes - I see it once a week, not actually common, just feels like it. Most pf the people on this site seem to be very genuine decent people - just one or two idiots that tarnish a good game/site.

Maybe if more people complain, sky poker may do something, but from what you say Kevin, I doubt it now. As I wrote before tho, I put up with personal insults, even tho the stake is only 30p or 60 in an STT. I just found the remark during one of the freerolls incredible. Abuse like that and the remark to cancer (OMG) can put new players off from returning.....

Fact is you shouldnt have 2!!!!!

Last night for example this guy tried to bluff me in a big pot but I kne I had better so i called him....and won

He called me a sl*g on the table which is totally unacceptable language

I warned him if he swore and me again I would report him, but seriously what is the point all that happens is they get a slap on the wrist and told not 2 do again.

I think the problem is that not enough people bother to report offensive behaviour at the tables, if more people did so then I believe that many of the offenders would be chat banned, possibly for life, or even excluded from the site altogether.  The trouble is far too many people just laugh it off or treat it as part of the game.

i've had lots of it lately, i can't see the point of anyone being able to chat tbh, i dont play poker to make friends i dont need to have a chat with a complete stranger i dont need congratulations for a nice hand i dont need to be told when i've donked out i dont need abuse when i've knocked someone out i have no reason to say anything to anyone when i'm playing   i take full responsibility for my actions at the table, and accept all consequences...without getting mouthy in an ideal world it would be great if everyone could have a good old "jolly up" while they play, but 99.9% of the time it's just going to get used for abuse, the negatives far out-weigh the positives in this situation. just get rid of the chat box. people can post on the forum if they REALLY feel the need to discuss anything further problem solved.
