*OFFICIAL PTP THREAD* To quote Jack Nicholson in The Shining...

edited April 2010 in Poker Chat
"Been away, but now I'm back!"

Yes, I'm returning to the Sky Poker tables this evening for a Play the Presenter session.  And, as usual, my focus will be Omaha.

I'll be playing PLO cash between 7 and 11:30pm - with a break at 8pm, so I can enter the £5k Bounty Hunter.  I'll let you know where I am at all times by posting in this thread.

Plus, as I'm a generous soul, I'll be awarding FREE entry into tomorrow's 8pm tournament to one lucky punter.

Those of you who've read my latest blog will know that I recently spent several hours trapped in the back of a bus playing No Limit Hold'em.  Now, I want to hear about YOUR most surreal poker-playing experience.

The wierdest / most entertaining / most outrageous anecdote will win the prize.  Please post your entry below.  You have until 11pm.

See you tonight!

BTW, I'll be moving up the limits as the evening progresses.  Starting at the 10p/20p PLO tables.  Then, later on, playing 25p/50p.

Ok let's get the ball rolling and talk about my first ever game of poker.

It was 1 in the morning, I was in my late teens, a young whipper snapper making his way through University.  Three couples had just returned home after a night of drink relating dancing and gyrating.  Myself and my then girlfriend, a male couple who were friends and my girlfriends gay housemate with a Spanish fellow who he had got on exceedingly well with at the club and decided he would like to know better despite his lack of knowledge of the English language.  Said friend also loved to smoke 'herbal' roll ups.  With a very small lounge now awash with the fog of these 'herbs' someone suggested we play a form of 5 card draw strip poker.  The game had four runners, myself, the couple and the GF's housemate.  So while the Spanish fellow and my girlfriend were very relaxed on the sofa the four of us shuffled up and dealt.  I was the first to lose his shirt and accompanying garments after I was penalized for trying to hide the king of clubs in my underwear.  Eventually every player was felted.

Now it got weird.  The gay couple decided that they were hungry so cooked everyone scrambled eggs on toast and did this with a fabulous rhythm and of course bravery when it comes to the eggs.  It was like the famous Morcombe and Wise breakfast scene.  Only naked.

I remember the first time I played poker.  It was round mine.  I must have been 14 or 15 at the time.  Anyway, it had been a long and rigorous game, and I had survived to heads-up.  My opponent (and best mate) had been running like God all night.  He had won every showdown, and picked up many an uncontested pot.  He'd had boats, quads, straight flushes, royal flushes, and going into heads-up, I fancied his chances.  Unsurprisingly, he won it all.  His winnig hand was quad fives.  Some guys get all the luck.

Anyway, we all went our separate ways, and come morning I decided to tidy up the mess.  As I was putting my cards away, I had a look at the burn cards from the last hand, and to my great surprise, I found a five in there.  Before this had time to sink in, I noticed another deck of cards (very similar to my own) left in my opponent's seat.  It was missing two fives.

And they say Sky Poker's fixed.

I was on my way to the Rendevous, Southend for a re-buy tournament once.  I was an hour on the train before I realised that I had ledt my ID at home.  Now, for most of tonight's viewers, this would be no problem.  However, I was (and am still) barely legal.  I had to leave my mates with a message to buy me in, while I rushed back to Barking.  I got a cab to my house and back to the station (this time with ID in hand).  However, once back on the train, disaster struck.  Major delays meant that I had to get off at Pitsea, or somewhere like that, and get a cab to the casino.

On arrival I noticed that my stack had been blinded down something rotten.  Ihad 4 bigs left.  I decided to shove them in blind, and managed to get called by everyone at the table.  I ended up flopping a boat, and I went on to win it all.  What a great ending you might say.  Perhaps, if it did indeed end there.  Heads-up took ages and we all ended up missing the last train.  5 hours later when the casino closed, and with all profit having been drunk, we made the hardest journey of my life back to the station.  I could barely stand I was so shattered.  What's more, I KNEW the way back, but my mate's i-Phone said different, and who was he going to believe?

After half an hour of fighting him on it, I eventually won the toss, and 7 hours behind schedule we boarded the fisrt train back to Fenchurch Street.  Then we had to get back off when the conductor saw our returns from the day before.  After shelling out for another piece of paper, we got on the next train, and decided we would all catch forty winks.  I had worked out that if I set my phone alarm for half eight, I would wake up in time to get off at Barking.  This would have worked a treat, but inexplicably I set the alarm for half nine, and awoke to the sound of a fat knuckle tapping on the window.  We were at Fenchurch Street.  It was another hour and a half before I was in bed.

There is a moral to this story, but for the life of me, I can't find it.  : 0

There's nothing quite like a losing session at the Omaha tables on a sunny Monday evening!

Well, I've been a bit spewy so far - i.e. I've made some AWFUL calls - but the night is young :-)

I'm currently playing in the £5k Bounty Hunter, but I'd like to give a "shout out" to all the crew from the 10p/20p PLO tables: MereNovice, Goldie123, loza666, BOYDID, Llamaman, TommyD, SoLack, SilkyB, barry1935, PBMT and chrisbhoy,

Once I've crashed out of the tournament (shouldn't be long), I'll be in action at the 25p/50p tables.

    Hope to see you there!

    In a word: tragic.

I'm certainly not giving you a prize for that, Greg!

I'm still in the BH - with a 20bb stack.

Have been playing OK(ish).  When short, I've shoved with marginal hands and have run into monsters.  But then I've sucked out...

A8 vs AK - 8 on the flop; 8 on the turn.  Sorry, Rascal999.

A7 vs KK - A on the flop; 7 on the turn.  Sorry, cross.

I don't expect this kind of luck to last.  Should be able to resume my business at the PLO tables soon.

Well, I'm not sure about that, but...

I have made it to the second break!  We're well into the money.  There are 33 players left.  I'm 22nd in chips - with 22,387.  And I've taken two bounties.

(Yes, I'm as shocked as you are.)

13th place in the £5k Bounty Hunter!

I'll take that, straight off the back of my win in the £6k Double Stack.  April has been a good month :-)

Right - 45 mins of PLO now.  I'm heading for the 25p/50p tables...

OK, time to declare a winner!

Well, it has to be Wilhelm, because...

    a) He went to the effort of entering TWICE.
    b) I feel sorry for him, after he was cheated by his best mate.
    c) He amused me with his 'Batman' joke.

So, congratulations Wilhelm - you receive free entry to tomorrow's 8pm tournament.  Expect to receive a PM from Sky_Claire.

Thank you.  And I managed to finish my PLO session in profit as well!

Thanks to everyone who joined me at my 25p/50p table - P4RYS, SweetTreat, mmmchips and Cowgomoo - plus (coming back for more) MereNovice, TommyD and Llamaman.

My next PTP session is on Friday 14th May.

Before that, I'll be in Monte Carlo for the EPT Grand Final and Glasgow for the Sky Poker Tour.  I really look forward to meeting those of you who are coming to Scotland next month.  Obviously, I'll be writing blogs about both trips :-)

    See you soon!
