An 1diots guide to....

edited May 2010 in The Poker Clinic

Beating a calling station......

S/he limps in/min raises every time they play a hand.........no matter how strong it is....

Calls for fun, the button is stuck.......

Hardly ever raises.

Do you just accept ur gonna stack off with JJ v AA on ten high boards, bite your tongue, and get on with it?

Just leave general tips....or even specific ones.....

Such as hypothetical hands, or even post real ones.....

This isnt a "how to beat micro stakes" thread - coz I play limits up to nl100, and I get called down time and time again by successful players at the high end of that spectrum....but particularly te nl30-50 area....

Its great sometimes, but at a table full of them, the line between getting value, and not just stacking off into the guys hands is fine im finding.

Frustrating as the profit shud be alot higher than it is!

Help meeeee

I was just about to start a thread but this is kinda on the same line so il just use this if its ok lol.

How do you enter a pot against calling stations, there was a table earlier and 4 of them would limp into nearly every pot and still call your pre flop raises. so if you got hand like AQs on the button and raise 3x you get 4 callers and flop comes 10 5 7 rainbow do you c-bet these calling stations or check call there bet of 4p into the pot of 60 (which they like to do all the time lol) or just c-f?

If the answer is check fold and wait till you hit and then stack them, then why is it so wrong to just limp in with them if there all going to come along for the ride anyway. i no its harder to get value but its so frustrating raising pre with a hand like aq knowing your going to get 4 callers and you need to hit big to get any value back.

I never normally would think its worth limping but on these kind of tables it did get quite tempting to just see a cheap flop and take it from there if i hit.

sorry for such a long post on your thread dohhh

This is basically like playing in most casinos when nearly every player at the table is a massive calling station. I just tighten up my range of starting hands, and when I do enter a pot I raise up to around 5/6 BB's (If you still get multiple callers then just keep increasing the opening raise size until you're getting just 1/2 callers on average). Also it's ok to limp in sometimes to see flops with suited connectors and small pocket pairs (especially when youre faced with the min raise) because they are never getting away from overpairs so its easy to stack them if you hit.

After raising pre theres not much point in c-betting if you miss unless it's a really dry board (and then only if heads up). And generally just be happy to get stacks in with TPTK or better, as the times you get value from these against their calling ranges far outweighs the times when they actually have this beat and manage to stack you off.

but Futurama and South Park on my iPhone has helped combat this tbf
