Wp m8, gr8 gm you played, now cmon its time 2 spill the beans about the flat call under the gun with AJ for 35% of ya stack when the blinds were at 15/30k.
I must admit i was slightly worried with the limp but the end result was gr8 so we will just 4 get that limp and remember the end result, lol.
Gd luck with ya nxt gms, hope the run continues and the big 1st place isent 2 far away, Ill catch you at the tbs later, cos its a big day for the Kent Spitfires 2day, Ozzie

hiya oz cheers for your support last nite m8 & Jimbo's it was awesome

ok i will try and explain my thinking on the A J hand here goes

i reckonised that i had played a few of the guys at my table from earlier had my notes in front of me for moves i had made that were successful also i remembered that in a mickjenn1 deepy was in 13th of 17 & went out with A A so i thought at this stage i would flat call and was expecting the guys from earlier to fold to narrow the field ( re Jimbo31 advice ) so i limped with full intention of playing the hand but wanted a few players to get out of the way

hope that helps m8   below is the advice
i brought to the Table as a refference i got it
after i posted a ?? in poker statagy ( re did i play these hands right? )
       From Mr mbro

    Hi DTW,
ok this might not look positive, so im sorry.
The first hand, why get involved with a raggy ace(the fact it is suited means nowt), this is a DEEPSTACK tourny on a 10 seat table. His raise could have been anything that was beating you, pairs, AK,AQ,AJ,A10,ETC,even JQ is only slightly behind. Just get rid and find a better spot.

The way you played it, to me was aggresive, but in this sort of tourny after the bet on the flop was called i would have shutdown and moved to the next hand.
Forget the result of the hand. in a deepstack early on dont take too many risks, with hands like this.
The second hand, i would raise more to thin the field out. I think you are unfortunate that you were second to act after the flop, as your call was not to bad,(in that situation). If you were last to act then my advice would be to fold.
If you look at the flop, what hands are around--- nut flush, over pair, trips.

I am mainly a TAG player and the problem with to many players is not being able to adapt to slower structures and going from 6 to 10 seaters. I have prolems going into turbo tournies(thats why i dont play them).
Hope my take on this helps give you another prospective.

    col

        From Jimbo31

IN HAND ONE ... I DONT THINK U DID NOTHING THAT BAD.... U REPRESENTED U HAD HIT THE BOARD WHICH WAS PRETTY DRY AND FIRED OUT GOOD SIZE BULLETS ON THE FLOP AND TURN..., U HAD A GUTSHOT AND THE OVERCARD POST FLOP AND BET OUT WELL AFTER VILLAIN CHECKED TO U... I LIKE UR BET ON THE TURN OF 240 BUT WHEN I GET MIN RAISED WITH A Q SHOWING I MAY OF POSSIBLY LET THAT GO(EVEN THO U WERE STILL AHEAD).. OR RERAISE BACK... DEPENDING ON UR STYLE.... THE RIVER LEAVES U WITH ACE HIGH... AND 3.7K BEHIND... AGAIN DEPENDING ON UR STYLE..AND IT SEEMS THAT DAZZLER IS A "LAG" A CHECK WAS GOOD ENUOGH AS IF U FIRED IN A THIRD BULLET OF 2/3RD OR SHOVED IM SURE DAZZLER WOULD OF CALLED... THING IS IT WAS LOOSE PLAY BY DAZZLER TO CALL THE FLOP WIV JK(BUT HE HAD A STACK AND MAYBE WAS TRYING TO RUN OVER THE TABLE)BUT WHEN HE MINRAISED U I THINK HE WAS FINDING OUT "WHERE HE WAS" U WERE JUST UNLUCKY ON THE RIVER... TURN PLAY IS CRUCIAL IN AN MTT AND HE COULD OF HAD A SET AND WAS SLOW PLAYING... LIKE I MENTIONED... EITHER FOLD ON TURN OR RERAISE HIS RAISE... BUT THE CHECK ON THE RIVER WAS UR ONLY OPTTION AS U WOULD OF BLED MORE CHIPS....

IN HAND TWO.....DONT LIKE THE FLAT CALL WITH UR JACKS.... I WOULD OF RAISED IT UP TO 120-150... NARROW THE FIELD... HOOKS ARE A HAND U WANT TO PLAY AGAINST ONE OPPO... NOT 4! WHEN DAZLER (AGAIN) RASIED U.. ALOT OF PLAYERS JUST CALL...TO SEE A FLOP AS THEY ALL DONE... PERSONALLY I WOULD RERAISE IN THIS SITUATION AGAIN TRYING TO NARROW THE FIELD AND PUT MY OPPO ON A HAND... IF U HAD DONE THIS SAY RERAISE TO 570 THEN U WOULD OF EITHER POSSIBLY GOT A CALLER OR BEEN RERAISED URSELF... THIS GIVES U INFO AND U CAN PUT UR OPPO ON A RANGE FROM SAY 10S-ACES... IF VILAIN HAD SHOVED I WOULD OF PASSED AS NOW THE INFO IVE GOT IS THAT MY HOOKS ARE NO GOOD... AND PUT HIM ON QQ-AA. THE FLOP COMES PRETTY DRAW HEAVY... SETS, FLUSH DRAWS STR8S PRETTY SCARY...WHEN DAZZLER BETS 510... UVE GOT TO ASK URSELFWHAT  UR OTHER OPPOS HAVE GOT AS WELL... Y WOULD THEY BE IN THE POT HAVE THEY GOT 9S 8S OR 5S... AKX OVER PAIRS... UR HOOKS DO LOOK GOOD AND IF AND I SAY ONLY IF IT WAS ME AND DAZZLER I WOULD OF PROB RERAISED HIM ALL IN... BUT BECAUSE IVE GOT 2 BEHIND ME....WHO WILL PROB CALL OR EVEN RAISE THE 510 I MAY OF FLAT CALLED JUST TO SEE THE TURN IF IT WAS A BLANK..OR A SCARE CARD,BY MINRAISING U SETTING URSELF IN... AS PLAYERS BEHIND U WILL CALL OR RERAISE U... TO WHICH THEY DID LEAVING U NO EQUITY...IF U HAD FLAT CALLED THE 510 STILL WOULD OF LEFT U BEST PART OF 3K PLENTY OF TIME IN A SLEEPSTACK... BY THE SHOVE OF DAZZLER U HAD PRETTY MUCH COMMITED AND 4 WAY POT IS NOT GOOD....AND U MUST KNOW UR BEHIND.... I PERSONALLY THINK IT WAS PREFLOP PLAY THAT LET U DOWN... AS DAZZLER IS A "LAG" AND IF U HAD RERAISED HIS RAISE IM SURE HE WOULD OF SHOVED... U COULD THEN PASS TO HIS QQ AND IF MR 88 WANTED TO GO ALONG HE WOULD OF COLLECTED...HIS MADE SET... BUT U WOULD OF STILL BEEN IN AND MADE A GOOD SOLID LAYDOWN... HOPE THIS HELPS AND GOOD LUCK;-)

         it was an amazing nite

        many thanks to all

Hi michael, this is why we love poker because we all play hands in different ways, I personally would of shoved under the gun if i was going 2 play AJ, with your stack and posistion. But as it worked it out the nxt guy pushed neway. It was a auto call for you cos you had most of ya stack in the pot at this point. So wots your plan 4 2nite, 2nd place in the open or you going for the 1st prize gl m8, Ozzie

     Hi Bandit,
I've got to say i'm impressed by the way you have have  kept a log of all you games so far, the purist will tell you that's the way to do things and i'm sure they are right !
The  thing  i remember most  and always remind myself, was something from the film 'Rounders' about what Doyle Brunson said,
"In the rare situations when all  your card knowledge and best judgement leave you in doubt, go with your strong feeling and not against it !!"

    glk Benny

    Stay positive and enjoy

many thanks for your advice bennydip2 I agree with u there  as sometimes i over think hands and it gets me into trouble so at present i play to my strenghs and keep it simple i have now established a simple guild i have with me when playing to stop me overthinking i have been working on to improve my play as the blinds go up 1.when to stop limping  2.what level (very confusing) 3. fold or all-in (Tikay & Rich cleared a lot of these up on last nights show with the A J hand debate )

1 thing is for sure i will never ever lose my enjoyment of Poker now as i'm hooked

cheers for your post m8 look forward to reading more

what a week it was am still buzzing it couldn't have gone any better  thanks goes to the following

Jimbo31/ Mr mbro/ Ozzie08 / Tikay / Rich Orford / Dudeskin / Pillowman / Trevor / and the many others already mention on this thread

          mon 10th & tues 11th

went on a bit of a downswing these 2 days nothing to major

           wed  12th

downswing started to cease and by the end of the day was back up to par ready for next day

           thurs  13th

caught up with replying to posts on my threads then off to find a Five-00 sat buy - in £1-10 entered played ok went out on bubble then reg fo freeroll which had 1119 runners & finished 22nd cashed £1-50 then just had time to enter CELB DYM came 1st in that i thought what a great day

           fri  14th

where do i start  ok  had a go at  Five-00 sat for £4-80 was under my £5-50 buy-in bankroll for telly tourney's another bubble but cashed  then played a £1-20 sat for £1000 Velocity & got through to main event at 10pm just had time for a £100 speed tourney came 5th i think & cashed got some dinner ready for Velocity had Jimbo31 & Ozzie08 railing me and thought my aim is to cash got to the cash still had not a bad stack it was like a huge weight had been lifted i think i said to jimbo & ozzie08 that i could relax now and play my game apart from 1 mistake when playing A J hand  iwent on to reach the final table ended up finishing 2nd and cashed £228-75 and thought omg

sat  15th  1st thought was sat for tonights open but then i decided just to pay £11 buy-in as my bankroll had improved then off to find a £100 speed tourney buy-in was £1-10 & i cashed £8 so tonights open was only costing £3 result went off to sort out my weeks sports bets til the open Ozzie08 dropped in to rail was struggling a bit but managed to hold on & came 67th & cashed £21

sun  16th  i was now on for the hat-trick cashing in 3 £1000+ tourney's so you guessed straight over to a sat cost £3-75 buy-in and i got through to main event tonite thinking could i do it again  went off to do me sports then found a £100 speed to get some practice can't remember if i cashed as i was trying to focus for the open got off to a good start picking the hands i wanted to play after a while had dudeskin8 drop in then Ozzie08 then Pillowman now i was doing a lot better than last nites open just plodding along it got down to 65 i was 64th got dealt A3 suited my big blind next and very low stacked so had major decission had not limped all tourny and thought i would leave in the hands of the poker gods and shoved all-in all folded bar 1 he won the hand i thought i had bubbled but by now yhere were loads railing 1 of them said you've cashed then ozzie08 said you've cashed when i checked it turned out i came 58th cashed £36  hat-trick complete

         mon  17th  day off

hi DTW just had a read and you are progressing fast...i sense a soon to be Open champion here!

but anyway one bit of advice i would give is that you should not rely on Sharkscope; I think you should start you own basic spreadsheet and that way you can track your progress far more easily.

will only take a minute to complete after each tournie/satellite/cash game...just stuff like Game Type/Date/Profit & Loss and also you may want to add a comment section so you can maybe jot down a line or 2 about how you played?

i would upload my spreadsheet but its a bit complicated cos it tracks other stuff but i'm sure you get the idea.

at end of august i will do a summary of 1st 3 months of playing poker and see where i am at  then set my goals again for next 3 months at the moment tho i am way ahead of schedule i thought i wouldn't break even til at least xmas but am already showing a profit from my 3 month allowance i set for myself at the start will continue with-in my bankroll that i set at start of august til 31/8/09 as for winning an open was looking at  doing that by 2010 my main goal at present is to get consistant cashing which i seem to be on course for but time will tell

    Hi mate,

well I told you what I was doing. Last update I was started at 50 and on 82. I had a truly horrific run and I won't bore you with details but I ended up at 38.

I have never felt so depressed at the bad beats I received. It was shocking.

I kept at it believing I was playing good poker and getting real bad luck. Which most of the time I was. Some of the regular players here will I am sure openly admit they got lucky on me many times. Maybe they won't.  But to have AA cracked and come back from 400 chips to 27th was a big deal for me. Tonight I went all in with the best 2 pair on flop to have river hit a full house for other person, KK beat by all in preflop- of A4, and very next hand of QQ beat all in preflop of A7 and also my KK with proper raises sucked out to a river on 88 by massie in tonight in tikeys. To give you idea of why I get annoyed. I don't think I play bad poker overall but get bad beat so much it really annoys me when the people who bd beat me are regular winners and  I know they should not be there because they have played bad but get lucky. ALL THE TIME.

Anyhow I entered a deepie and won it so from my 50 I am now at £112 for once my hands held up, and so I am stilll ahead by about 100% for this month. I hope your having good fortune as well.

I am really annoyed with poker at this moment, normally it doesn't bother me because I just play for fun, but this month I tried to do BRM and just got so many bad beats it makes me puke. I am very annoyed but still in good profit

I feel ovrall I play good poker but so far have not had the luck that goes with good play, and still have much to learn.

hi Draig i am sorry to hear of your bad run of luck m8 but glad to see you are back in profit mate it seems to me that Poker is like most Betting  sports  as its progressive i for one would say you have a good game the problem we all have is a losing streak and when it happens regulary its hard to keep a possitive mental attitude i think thats where our discipline comes into the game (which i am still leaening) as with most sports games i try not to dwell on negs i've had days where the river hasn't been in my favour getting good cards and losing relying on bankers only to see them bust out the important thing for me is i try not to carry it over til the next day i'll go and play  30p SnG's & freerolls until i am back to a possitive frame of mind with no negative thoughts then i'll play a sat or a £1-10 speed tourney to get my game  back

m8 u are back to winning ways now please try & stay possitive and when u get a bad beat as hard as it is u gotta forget about

I don't play any cash YET either, but my rule for table selection (in terms of costs) would be the same 5% entry, but that 5% must represent the initial 100 BB buy-in. So for example to play 0.02/0.04 I'd be buying in at £4.00 and that would need a BR of at least £80. With my own current BR of £280 I'd stick to the 0.05/0.10.

That may be a bit strict (?) That's just my own rule - See what others think.

    Cheers

    Hi Turpin,

    Got your message and replied.

Update for you on my progress this month.

If you recall 1st Aug I put £50 in. I then went up to £82, then back down to £38, which was infuriating. However I am now back up to £117, and not so many days left to the end of the month.

Have had a couple of cashes last few days which has kept the profit going the right way, while still paying for the entry fees.

Now I just need one good cash finish in one of the 7pm deepies and I will be happy enough. Last one we played in where I kept having pocket pairs was good fun. I was getting so many of them but they all kept missing, and thought I showed good dicsipline to fold them to unfavourable flops. The last one I thought I was a bit unlucky not to win with 8-8, especially then hitting the straight at the end to be called by a KQ all the way down so he hit the better straight but there you go, that's poker!

Been playing a fair bit of Omaha on that other site as well and doing ok on it. Fun game that is also, I am slowly getting to grips with it. First Omaha tourney I entered for $5 was about 30 runners and I came 3rd for about $25 so I was pleased with that.

See you soon keep up the good work.
