How Circumstances Collide to Give a Nice Win!

edited June 2010 in Poker Chat
To dispel those conspiracy theorists I have had an amazing 2 weeks playing live at Alea Leeds where a set of circumstances meant I took down the Alea Leeds monthly freeroll for £250 last night.

To qualify for this tournament you need to accrue points over the month, final table positions scored points, I went 3 times over the month of May and won twice so was sat at 2000 pts, by chance I went over on Bank Holiday Monday, the final qualifying day and it transpired I needed 7th place or better to qualify for the end of month freeroll.

Early on I ran my KK into AA, all the money in the middle and first card out the K! I actually cracked aces in all 3 of the games I eventually scored points in. After a tight game I eventually shoved my short stack JJ into KQ and exited in 8th place (1 place away from getting enough points to qualify!)

On further examination of the league table it seemed if Dan (the large stack of 7 left) did not win I would qualify in 18th and last place for the freeroll, Sian was still in and she knew if she denied Dan the win I would qualify, she duly doubled up 3 times and eventually crippled Dan to get me into the freeroll!

I started the freeroll last night with the lowest chips as you took your points total to the table in chips, played pretty tight to the break and went to the final table of 8 as 4th best.  Got lucky when I shoved my short stack on a semi bluff and got the chip leader to lay down top pair K kicker. Later I pushed KQ into A10 , the flop of KJJ was both a relief and a worry as I now had to avoid a K but I survived and as low stack with 4 left a chop was discussed, the chip leader declined and the decision was great for me as I went on to take him out and end up heads up huge chip leader, 3 hands later my 44 held up against A6 and I took the £250 prize money from a casino free roll!!

Tonight I go for the Friday night hat-trick! As the immortal Tikay said at Manchester SPT "Live poker is fixed!"
