Playing poker in Vegas

edited June 2010 in Poker Chat
I am heading out to Vegas later this year with a few friends! I have researched into poker events and tourneys whilst i am out there and i am looking to play some cheap tournaments around $100. I am just wondering if anybody knows what the standard of play is like out there? Either first hand experience or through hearsay!?

Ive been told, i will state told, that the play of the lower stake tournaments where good, although to be fair the guy that told me wasnt the best at poker himself.

I was there 2 years ago, didnt know much about poker back then and was always drunk as of free bars(mind the tip) lol

There is plenty of people over there that can play and probably play those tournys every day for a living etc, as i seen a lot of same faces most days, i mostly stayed at cash tables losing my money to be honest.

Though my mate played a lot when we were there and cashed a few times, so it could be your luck who's in at a certain time. but there is loads all day to suit when you want to play.

Best thing to do is browse around the casinos and see what tournys best suit you.

Will probably be more people on here with better info, but i can help a bit if you need to know anything else :)

The general standard of play is awful, but you've got to get a read on each table you sit at because even if half the field is bad you could very easily still end up on tables full of decent players.

The cash games are generally very soft as well, but I don't play much cash so that's just on what people have told me.

One recommendation I would have if you don't usually play much cash either though, is to do what I did. Use Vegas as an opportunity to get some live cash played - I don't play much cash but I made a tidy profit playing 1/1 at the Hilton room, best avoid the rooms like the Rio if you're going during the WSOP, and Caesars, Wynn and the Bellagio - but away from those you're likely to find a good soft game to practice your skills at.
