bad beats

edited August 2009 in Area 51
why is it on this site there is so many bad beats: you get AK suited do the sensible thing all in,,, and you get idiots calling with 9 4 off suit  and winning with a full house never seen this on any other site or you get two pair on the flop and go all in and somebody else gets a straight ,,, this seems to happen every 3 or 4 hands,, it fantasy poker

i totally agree meo1, i know that Tikay always says that you want these players to call with these kind of hands which is true but imo it happens way to often on this site

You don't think it happens on other Sites? Or Live?

It is, whether you can accept it or not, exactly how poker works.

Chess is pure skill. Poker is skill & luck combined.

We could debate all day about what the ratio of luck to skill is, but most seasoned obswervers put it at 70% luck, 30% skill.

What is beyond doubt, though, is that beats happen throughout Poker, & no more or less here than anywhere else. Do you really think the Sky Software Techies are clever enough or daft enough to write code specifically to cause Beats? Any why would they? (Rhetorical).

Have you ever wondered why Phil Hellmuth, arguably the world's best Hold 'em player, only makes One final for every 11 Tourneys he plays? Or wins one Tourney in every 90 he plays? Or why Ex World-Champion Chris Moneymaker has played every Major Tourney worldwide since he became World Champ 6 years back, & barely cashed once? Or why Jamie Gold only ever won one big Tourney?

As devils advocate here, is it the right thing to go all in with AKs??? one for the strategy forum methinks!!

After all AK is only A high losing to any pair even deuces! If i'm short stacked I may call your all in with any pair if folded to me in position and I would be right to do so. I may call in one of my gut feeling moments aswell with pants just cos I've been cold decked for the past 100 hands.

As a side... playing DYM when you make the cash I personally have no interest in gaining league points as I have no chance of benefitting from them. So I go all in with any 2 and more often than not end up finishing 1st against premium hands. Obviously not something I'd condone in an MTT it is losing play and I'd get lynched i'm sure! But if i ever get to the final 3 in the open..........

ur absolutely right tikay, i was just a bit frustrated at the time after having pocket kings busted by 3 4, it just seems to me that a lot of the time these terrible calls get rewarded

Hi Bestman, which tournament is that? I can only see one 'private' tournament and that's the league final, which is automatic entry for those who qualify (?)

For all you guys that think bad beats only happen on Sky Poker  !!!!!!
I was playing  a tourny today on Party Poker and was 2nd chip leader. Dealt KK on the button. Shortstack under gun pushes and is called by another shortstack and then by chip leader making pot of about 4k. Guessing chip leader is chancing on it to put out both of them I stuck 8k in which he flat called. Flop was 8 4 5 rainbow. I thought if AA was about it would be with a shortstack so I pushed. And was immediately called.
Amazingly all three of them showed AQ not suited.

The turn came up with the case Q which was great for me !

Yes you guessed it .......the river was the case Ace  !

yes tikay ,totally true, you have to have a basic knowledge of poker to play the game ,but the luck aspect is more influencial in taking you into the final stages.....i went to casino on friday played the 50 rebuy and was on the last two tables with 6 on each......hands are dealt.....seat 1 folds all the way round to seat 5 small blind.......he looks down at his cards K spades 10 Diamonds...and with blinds at 2000/4000 made a raise to 7500,seat 6 big blind looks down at ace spades ace hearts....and pushes all in for 13000......now we all know the odds ,but for a pot of 26000 he is getting better odds to call than to fold......might i add i put down queen diamonds 2 hearts in seat 3....

he calls  flop is 9 diamonds 7 diamonds 5 diamonds...turn is K diamonds river is 9 hearts....

now i would have won the hand with my q2 if i had called.....

so...really sometimes you have to take chances to make big bucks......i am not saying play q2 but you need to realize that most bad beats only occur because you are all in.......so thats it you lost and your night is over

like wise two hands later ....right on final table bubble...........i get ak clubs....small blind puts me all in with 33

    is a race....

now after 6 hrs of playing if you are prepared to take a chance you must be prepared to lose......i call

    flop j103
    turn 8
    river a

    and cest la vie.....

was hoping for queen on river but sadly it never came....

skill can only take you so far as all you really can hope for is to go in as far ahead as possible....

ps have covered mouse in tin foil ,that seems to work well...lol
