I don't play the shorting style, I actually treat shorters with a fair amount of distain (in a poker sense). But I have studied it as I run into these players all the time.
By shorting you are looking for:
1) Double up spots where a LAG automatically has the odds to call you light after his initial raise as you have so little behind.
2) Triple/Quaduaple up spots where you have a hand that plays well multiway and you can get all the money in off multiple opponents because it's so little money whereas when you get three or four people in the pots, suddenly your hand is profitable over time as the number of callers meet your odds.
There is a talent to it but a lot of players try the style and don't understand what hands they should be playing (they should openfold AJ on the button but look to push with 76 suited UTG).
