Am I just not learning? (2 hands)

edited July 2010 in The Poker Clinic

Or......are these 2 hands excusable?

The first one here is against a really really solid reg.

Its recorded on my first vid, if I can figure out how to post it you will hear my thoughts, but I actually say on the vid, I trying to take him off AK/AQ on the river, by reppin AJ/AT...

I genuinely believe he could fold those hands, but unfortunately he hit the turn....

Hand 2....

Instead of going agro 3 streets, I decided to float a flop....

I have played with this reg alot, and when he slows down on the turn, despite his wide opening range, I can assume he's missed the flop, and/or isuncomfortable with his hand.

I bet the turn, and get a call, so assume fd/99/TT

Maybe I shud give up river?

First hand I'd personally give up on turn as he could easily have an ace and be unwilling to fold, plus ur OOP.

Second looks ok he just can't fold top pair average kicker.

The context of these plays is important.

I don't think they are completely horrible plays but it depends on what the villains views of you are.

    Hand 1:

Do they think you are likely to 3 barrel air? I'm sure they know you are capable of it. The board is pretty yukky for you so a 3 barrel can look a bit strange as most hands will be slowing down a bit perhaps as the board seems to get more and more complicated.

Would prefer the float in hand 2 if your hand had a bit more potential to pick up a draw or something on the turn.

No BD flush draw and only one overcard maybe not the best flop to be floating with.

Again though it's not terrible. You mentioned your reads on the oppo on both hands. But sometimes you have to view it as how they view you?

What hand do you think you are repping hand two?

hes trying to rep the hand villain has, i think hand 2 is ok although i agree with clio that you should float with atleast some equity in the pot. i think hand 1 is bad because he has all 16 cmbos of KQ in his range imo, surely if hes a reg hes 3betting AK pre, leaving the 8combos of AQ for you to try and fold out.

i would def. take a note on villain c/c turn and river with TPGK oop so u can just own him in future (overbetting ftw)

Hand 1, dont you think he would 3 bet you with AQ/AK? So if that's what you put him on then I think that's flawed.

Hand 2, I give up on river (only because obvs i play micro stakes so no one folds). What was your reasoning for floating?

Ok Im a 3 barrell addict!!

But can u spot anything different here?

Other than me rivering the nuts....

Obviously its correct to play the same with the nuts as u wud with air, I really think I make a good job of doing that, its just so sick how I get owned so often...

Is there anything different? Bet sizing? Maybe the time bar! ffs!

1st hand. Trying to get people to fold an ace is stupd.

2nd hand. Once he check calls turn hes calling most river bets. Either fold or jam.
  • edited July 2010
ya he folds bc he missed his FD but realy dont start 3barrel bluffing him
