Live hand - Good fold?

edited July 2010 in The Poker Clinic
Now this was a live hand last night, i got critised for my fold so ive decided ill ask the better players what they think. I think i made the correct/profitable fold but everyone else in the room disagreed.

Set up of the game

£5 restricted buy in, blinds 10p/20p

My stack around £8

In my hand i have Qs Jc

I raise to 60p, the table had been reasonably tight and i was stealing alot of blinds this way. Also taking it down on the flop alot of times with c/bets.

One caller and has position on me.

Flop comes: Qd 6d 5d

I make c/bet with top pair of £1.20

opponent shoves for a further fiver. if i call i have him covered but only by a small amount. I think for a while and fold in the end showing my QJ.

The room goes nuts, says it should be an instant call, i ask why and explain 3 diamonds on the board i could easily be crushed to runner runner.

My opponent a much older guy taps me on the shoulder and says, i had one diamand and shows Ad 5h.

What do you guys think.

This smells like a pub game?

    If it is then insta-fist-pump-do-a-dance-and-scream-HALLELUJAH-call.

    IMO.

EDIT: Should explain why I think this and be a little more constructive. I spent the best part of 2 years playing pub poker because it was free and was a place where I could learn the basic mechanics of playing live. Once I got used to playing live and started earning money I started playing Tourneys/Cash Games in the Casino's because the standard of Pub Poker was so poor that I wasn't learning anything. I would liken to it a standard .02/.04 game, but that's doing a disservice to the .02/.04 game because Pub Poker players are MUCH worse. The amount of times i've seen a guy go crazy with bottom pair no fd on a board like that in Pub Poker is ridiculous. The reason I assume it is Pub Poker, btw, is because I used to play a Pub Tournament where a cash game with the same set-up (£5 BI .10/.20, that's just rubbish) would begin when enough people have been busted in the Tournament.

If it isn't pub poker, I still probably call because villain turns up with said hand so often.

Regardless of whether or not it is pub poker, please don't get into the habit of showing what you're folding too often, especially if you're still making these sorts of mistakes. Giving people information on the way you play will just make it so much harder for you to improve when other people start making funky plays vs you because theyve seen you muck TPGK. It'll just over-complicate things.

As you said Youngun it was a pub game and yeap started after people busted out of the tournament. lol.

I rarley show but these guys i play against all the time, they know my game inside out and i know theres. As a result i wasnt really giving further information i dont think, I very rarley show anything unless i have to.

On the Casino note, i would prefer to play in a Casino but it costs me a tenner just to get there,
