Big, 1 session downswing. Coolers or spew, you decide.

edited August 2010 in The Poker Clinic
Well, after some big up and down swings over the last few days, last nights session couldnt be recovered.  Went pretty bad tbh.  Down just short of 10 buyins at 50 nl.
I have searched hands losses more than £20, and have found 10.  A lot I know.  Apologies to Harvey in advance lol.
If you can be bothered, plz comment.

Blimey thats long, think a mixture but here's how i see it:
    1) Bet pot on flop, on turn silly all in if no reads you have nut straight someone could easily have also backdoor flush draw and 2 people in the pot still against 1 i dont mind it but your hands not going to hold up against 2 with these draws more often then not
2)Bet more flop, after that gets called maybe can fire out turn again at most but think you should be trying to get out after this gets called
    3) Unlucky played fine - Cooler
    4) Dont understand why you checked the flop? either way they all going in here so no getting away

    5) In position fire out on flop to find out  as you have missed you want to find out how strong your opponent is, as played impossible to put him on 10s as you didnt ask a question on the flop.
    6) Unlucky- cooler
    7) His Re-raise screams how strong he is here, but dont think you could get away from it as pretty commited. only way you can fold queens pre is depending on your reads or against a couple of people who have shoved
    8) Bet more flop, bet turn, check/fold river if played this way more chance would get check down as much stronger play. As played looks really week with check call on turn and then check river
    9) Unlucky as got money in good but still think this may be tilt inflicted as AK pre not really a good move imo
    10) Raise more flop, dunno whether could get away from it again thats player dependant and your instinct whether they have the 5

Ok, gonna try and take these one at a time :)

    Hand 1

More or less a cooler but I'm not too sure about your overbet 3bet jam on the turn.  I understand there are two flush draws out there as well as some straight draws so you need to protect your hand and I like your initial bet.  The answer we get back is a min raise and a flat behind the raiser after a preflop and flop action where no one's showed too much aggression.  I'm now wondering if the villains have some two pair combo, a slow played set of eights, flush draw or the AT.  I don't jam but I put in a decent bet (up to 10 quid on top).  The way the play has gone I can see both players going all in to this bet.  I'm not saying I'm definitely getting away from this hand but the alarm bells for AT will now be ringing loudly with so much action against me in an unraised preflop pot.  Some times I'll make a fold but sometimes I'll pay off here.
  • edited August 2010
1,what is the overbet on the turn about? i think your trying to get rid of flush draws, am i right? most of the time your only getting called when your beat. me, i flat turn and call off 2/3 pot bet on river but i will fold to overbet on river.

2,dont donk bet, c/raise it looks stronger on flop.  not many draws are out so when he calls turn its obv he has made hand so river is spewy, hope you made a note calls down light.

3,donk bet again, why? i am rr pre with the early pos limp to get it HU.

    4,get it in pre.

5,c bet £7 on flop if he rr then fold if he flats im stacking off on turn.

6,you only have £38 left after the call pre, i am shoving the lot in pre coz its suited, haha.

7,cooler?  he sees you as a nit so when he 4 bets pre he dont have JJ.

8,as played, do i call river bet? prob hoping he has missed flush.

    9,beat.

    10,i do same, hehe.

    1) id make it 15 on turn, betting flop as young gun said is pretty bad in 4way pot oop.
2)i really dont get the donk bet line, but when he calls 2 streets on dry board he always has Ax minimum and trying to get people to fold TP at small stakes isnt going to work.
    3) run better
    4) i dont get your overbet shove on turn again. when he checks flop his hand looks like AK,99-JJ if u shove turn hes going to fold them all unless you have history of a hero calling tendency.
    5) dont like your minraise. either flat or raise properly depending on villain
    6) 4bet/c pre all the time.
    7) stack off then make a note about his terrible bet sizing.
    8) bet/f or c/f turn depending on how villain plays draws / floats cbets alot etc. ( almost always the worst line you can possibly take is to c/c.)
    9) see 3).
    10) with your stack size i see no other option.

    Thanks for advice and replies,

Next question, Those 10 hands cost me ~£380, how much would you have lost in the same situations
  • edited August 2010
why do you care what others would lose in the same spots so you can reinforce you ran bad? ran bad and played bad mind you.

look back at the hands yourself and read the analysis given then give yourself a figure of what you should of lost and why you played certain hands the way you did and correct it for when the spots come up again.

people telling you i would of lost/won X amount will be of no help and it's rather pointless

How is that reinforcng I ran bad?
In fact, my reasons are  for the exact opposite.  I know I played some of those hands badly and will look into it.
If someone says they would have lost £150 in that situation, then I know Ive got big leaks.
  • edited August 2010
cba to do maths, i would have won bout tree fiddy
  • edited August 2010
the analysis above shows you've got leaks you don't need someone to tell what they would of lost which will be ridiculously inaccurate anyway because no-one else knows the dynamics and different reads you have in the hands posted.

edit: please don't start three fiddy craze here gawddd
  • edited August 2010

    Hand 1:

I really don’t like the jam, make it like £14 and then consider a fold if you get an all-in. The flatting of the 3-bet is quite suspicious by villain 2.

    Hand 2:

Do you usually donk out with an ace? I wouldn’t mind the donk out with like a set of 4’s or something when you know the guy is likely to call 3 streets with Ax but the 3rd barrel here seems a bit of a spew, i know the player in question and know you aint getting him off A anything so I’m assuming you are readless here.

    Hand 3:

    Played find, just very unlucky

    Hand 4:

I don’t like this hand. I 4-bet pre like 95% of time, if you are going to slow play like you did I don’t get the turn shove as you fold out too many hands that you beat that he could calal smaller bets with as you are under repped. Obv unlucky still though.

    Hand 5:

    Pre is fine.

I’m flatting that turn all-day long though. Your hand is almost face-up as AK so when he leads out into you on the A high turn does that not send off alarm bells, as it’s kind of obvious what you have so why is he leading out into it? I flat turn and flat river.

    Hand 6:

Bigger 3-bet pre IMO and stack off on flop still, ul.

    Hand 7:

Bit of a cooler button v blinds, tough one to get away from.

    Hand 8.

Fold river, the guy is a fish and not a bluffer. Played fine other than that.

    Hand 9:

    Nothing wrong with it, ul.

    Hand 10:

Pretty gross, I’ll occasionally check turn and either flat river or make value bet if they check. But alot of the time I’m going broke here too.

In Response to Re: Big, 1 session downswing. Coolers or spew, you decide.:
Thanks for advice and replies, Next question, Those 10 hands cost me ~£380, how much would you have lost in the same situations

    I would of saved about £90, on hands 2, 6 & 8 and probably a few quid on hand 1 !!

    Hand 2

Not a callers flop Sir.  You've flatted pre and then decided to use some aggression to take the pot by betting your gutshot.  The main problem is sets aside it's a raisers board; broken, rainbow, dry and ace high.  If you really thought you could take down this pot I would of much rather seen a check/raise on the flop or a stop and go flop to turn, at least then you can save part of your stack.  When I meet resistance I would of given up, certainly the river (aside from a back door flush which the action would indicate you were not on) doesn't convince the villain at all that they are now behind if they are calling on the flop and turn.  I always admire someone willing to get aggro and fire the three barrels but it's such a bad spot to do this on once you meet resistance.  You got stubborn and got stacked, it happens.
