Hi there first of all let me introduce my self, i am Carl, aka Hotwheals. I have been playing on here around a year now so some of you may already know me. The reason for this thread is because i want to set myself a challenge like another person did on here the other week kevil, i think, (sorry if i got that wong). Anyway i am doing it for a completly different reason. I have been in a wheelchair all my life and come along some very hard times, as you can imagine. I have just left uni with a degree and now have a job as a youth worker so that is something i am very proud of. One of my other passions is poker though, and i want to have something i am proud of on the poker front. I have always dreamed of playing poker live so i want to build a bankroll up that will help me do that. So here is my challenge, i have put just £30 into my sky poker account and i aim to try and build this up as much as i can, i will review it at christmas and so on from there. The games i aim to play are DYM Omaha, sats for main comps, Deepstacks and freerolls. Any advice from you good people would be very welcome and i will keep you all posted on a daily basis or as and when i play.

Good luck on your challenge.  You have picked a good month with all the guaranteed freerolls happening every day in August.  I'd say they might be a good way to boost your initial bankroll if you are disciplined and don't rebuy or addon.

Hi Carl. Keep your wheels on the ground and dont go too high and you'll be sound. You're a great player and a great mate :) I wish you all the best.

    Hi Hw

A very warm welcome to the forum, long time no see m8, I would suggest keeping within you bankroll limit, the cheap deepstacks, low level DYM,s, micro tournys, freerolls, not sure I could think of anything elese at the moment, the best of luck with your challenge.

welcome to the forum and good luck with your challenge.

As far as advice is concerned, as an omaha specialist i find the DYMs are not an ideal basis for the game which has a more natural setting in the cash game. If i were to go down the DYM route i would use NLHE because it is easier to beat at the lower levels with a correctly employed strategy. But other than that it sounds like you have a good gameplan and i wish you all the luck with it.

Thanks for the advice guys and girls keep it coming, the challenge actually started this afternoon so here is an update, been playing mostly DYM Omaha and at present i have increased my balance to £43.45. I aim to play a few more tonight as well as the 10:30pm freeroll.
  • edited August 2010
Well the freeroll was a disaster out early, i went all in with AJ and got called by 44 and it held up unfortunently. Not a bad first day at all though and i finished the first day on £43.80. Nearly a 45% improvement on my starting bankroll so cant complain at all.

    good luck-- hotwheals--

i admire your self imposed challenge--
already you seem to give the impression that you have a good grasp of the game--
most important thing about poker is to--
enjoy yourself the game and the people--

    good luck--

That's a great start Carl. Your bankroll is still on the smallish side, so don't let your early success go to your head and make the mistake of moving up to higher buy-ins too early. Having the patience to stick to a sensible BRM strategy is key in this sort of challenge if you're going to survive the inevitable downswings. Good luck.

Thanks for all the posts guys, i am taking the advice on board. As for today a bit of a strange one, i couldnt hit anything in the deepstacks or the freerolls but i couldnt miss in the DYM Omaha. So the bankroll has now slowly increased to £59.48. So just over £6 profit, not bad at all considering some of the cards i have had today.

N1 hotwheals--- The 2.20 deepies are very good value, and the best place to learn solid poker, so try to stick at it for a while-- the 7.15 is usually the biggest one-- the 8.15 is a great game too, but its 5.50 buy in so when you get a stash together, get in that one--- gl-- floppa whoppa!!!

cheers guys for all the encouragement, its much appreciated and the advice is being taken on board. As for Monday well i played some DYM Omaha and again was running very hot then i played the 7:15 deepstack and bubbled with a really sick hand, so sick ime feeling sick now lol. Anyway onwards and upwards, balance now £64.73.

    Hi All

Just an update on how things are going. The balance is now £111.69 after some good results on the 2, 3 and now 5 pound Omaha DYMS. Also trying to play as many deepstacks as i can as i feel that is where u learn a lot. I played in the 8:15 deepstack tonight £5.50 buy in and 52 runners. Just finished it and finished 7th for a return of £15.60 so not bad, however i did have one real sick hand and i think IRISHROVER will be still kicking his dog now as i delivered a serious bad beat to him, but hey thats poker it happens to all of us. Anyway onwards and upwards.

    Carl
