What would you do in this situation?

edited August 2010 in The Poker Clinic
Hi everyone, I was playing live in the Circus Casino in Liverpool last friday night and this hand arose. I'd like a bit of advice as to whether I did the correct thing and why I did or did not.

Bit of info: it was a £25d/c freezeout and 116 players entered. At this point there was 14 players left and the top 11 got paid.

Blinds were 2k/4k, ante was 300, my chipstack was 17.5k

7 Players on my table, I was in the cut off.

UTG and UTG +1 fold, then another short stack shoves for 17k, I look at my hand and I have a,q off suit. There are 3 players behind me, with the SB and BB both having very big stacks.
The player who shoved has been on my table for a while, I have seen him in the poker many times and I know him to be a tight aggressive player and he is very experienced. When he shoved he just looked up towards the ceiling as I asked for a count.

I then dwelled up for a while before folding my a,q.

Do you think I done the correct thing here? I've been thinking about it since and I'm not sure as to whether I did or not (I would state his hand but he didn't tell me what he had) although he said afterwards that he didn't blame me at all for folding a,q, as he would have probably done the same thing in my spot.

So to sum things up:
I have a,q, tight player with short stack shoves, 3 players behind me, 2 of whom have big stacks, 14 players left and 11 got paid. Did I do the right thing here?

Any feedback either agreeing or disagreeing with my fold is much appreciated.

P.S. I went out a few hands later when I open shoved with a,j off suit, only to find that one of the big stacks had a,k suited. I came 13th (and it was on friday the 13th as well!)
