edited August 2010 in Poker Chat
Can you leave dents in the cards during live play like say all the Aces so you can tell your oppoents hand?

     depends where you are playing

casinos tend to change decks every so offten but yes you can do it however if you do it and are caught there are then you are done for

so yes you can but its not worth it
  • edited August 2010
Yes it's possible, and sometimes it happens, and it is a scummy move to gain an advantage by deception rather than from skill.

If it is noticed, the deck gets changed, and if I noticed someone doing it I'd make sure they were banned from the cardroom.

    Don't be a douche.

what you need is some x ray sunglases where you can see through the cards........

sounds like a good pitch for dragons den..................................

    Hi mate,

I have 6 spade decks into one as a spare set, any time a card is noticed to be marked or damaged it is replaced.

Ahh I see, so because other people do it, it makes to perfectly acceptable for you to do it then? Well, in that case, I better head out to find some children to abuse, and sell the images on the internet for 'loads of money', because you gotta be ruthless eh kidda?

To summarise: Two wrongs do not make a right.

hey as those mad scousers used to say........................................................................calm down calm down

    obviously it's possable in theory.

But when you break it down, you would need to mark the cards so much that you could see the marking from over the table or while it's in transit from the dealer to the player. But not so much where they can notice and smash your face in.

So it is probably not possable really to dent the cards to cheat.

have to admit some players i go against, and it`s only mates ? do it, thats why i also look at cards, if there`s anything wrong, eg i can name card no/and suit, then new cards comes out, i hate cheaters, that`s why we lost a couple so called players,

It happened at this years WSOP during the $50,000 Poker Player’s Championship, a marked ace was found.

I'm not sure if I can post a link to other poker sites here, but if you google '2010 wsop marked card' you'll get the whole story.

People have been marking cards since poker began.

In a Licensed venue, if caught, the usual punishment is a life ban from all Casinos in the same ownership. (In my view, a Life ban is not long enough).

Unlicensed Venues don't tend to take it as seriously, which is why I rarely frequent them, & also advise others not to.

Most reasonably balanced individuals know where to draw the line as to pushing the rules to the very limit to gain advantage, but a few go beyond, & those who mark cards can never be defended. Note that only bad, or losing players, ever attempt it.

There is quite a difference between "ruthless" & "cheating". At our level, we play the game for fun, & anyone who even contemplates cheating really needs to quit poker, & go see a shrink. I've always struggled to comprehend what satisfaction a player derives if he succeeds or wins by cheating.

Remember watching a programme (not too long ago) where the cards were being marked as they were being made......think it was in South Africa. Scary Stuff.

I apologise for my over-the-top analogy, and admit it is in bad taste. I was infuriated by Mad Horse's arrogant reply, and thought of the most extreme example of why holding the ethos 'it does not matter who gets hurt, as long as I MAKE MONEY' to convey my anger. This was a bad decision.

I would obviously never wish abuse upon a child, and as a gesture of goodwill I will make a donation to a charity of Mad Horse's choice who work with the prevention of harm to children.

Again, my apologies for those who were offended, I will think out my replies more carefully in the future
