i love playing poker very much and i am getting mad because i do'nt know if anybody else has notice that there are alot of players are pressing there away button and sitting there on double your money games and waitinng for the other players to go out. i had one player yesterday sitting away and i had about 300 more chips than him i thought i will see if he was there so i went away he soon came back in cos he knew he would go out before me. i am so mad it putting me off playing poker.i know sometimes it a conection promblem but alot of the time its cheats.

Welcome to the forum, I know it is frustrating but it is not cheating, in any live game of poker you are entitled to sit out for as long as you want. Many people go for cigarette and toilet breaks in a game of live poker.

If the guy has 300 less than you then what advantage does he gain from sitting out? Surely you should be happy, if you can't beat someone that is away then who can you beat?

    It's not cheating it's a tactic. It seems you've discovered a counter-tactic. That's good poker. Be happy.
  • edited August 2010
...its a terrible tactic too....very exploitable lol

Im quite happy to play against a player that is "away" the secret is to keep an eye on the info and watch for them sitting back in!
  • edited August 2010
it's a tactic you both used then.

it's similar dilemma to the english on holiday saying that the germans put their towels on the sunbeds.  so the english beat them by putting their towels out earlier.

funnily, your opponent may have thought you were playing a game as clearly you were pretending to be away.  and might be equally as miffed.

all the sunbeds have english towels.

    Excellent point

    Some sit away throughout

others sit away until they have AA KK QQ and poss AK and then hit the I'm back button and usually go all in hoping for one caller.

As Donut rightly says this is immeditely announced in the info box.

Just make sure you make notes on who's doing what.

    being away

1 being away in live games you are away wether its a ciggi toilet, or as ive known in my local casino a player playing
a tourney and a cash table

2 being away in an online game there either playing other tourneys and leaving a game to concentrate on another,
or u could be away for connection problems or u can be away and be right on top of your computer just watching
well watching means your a spectator doesnt it. but cos your in the game you are just by-ding your time

so my advice dont take a player as away if they are away and its red they are away not conected
if there away and its green they are there

gl everyone at the tables        lucy

Totally agree with Dud and Donut

Just keep an eye on the message screen to see when they sit back in. A sitter outer will soon give up if they know they have been rumbled lol.

    Hey there

I have made an edit to the title as people who are away are not cheats, it is all part of poker

    Thank you for your understanding

These threads make me lol, people who complain about people being away just make themselves look stupid. If I couldnt beat a player who isnt there I would find the nearest motorway bridge.

i would like to thank everyone for there coments and just like to add that when i play porker out of respect for all the other player i make sure i have been to loo, i do'nt smoke but if i did, i would have had one.. my computor has lost connection loads of times but it dos'nt take all games to get back in. since i have been playing porker i have only once, not been able to get back in. ok i understand that some people use the away button has a tactic but i still say its cheating. has for sky changing my title( i hate cheats)to AWAY PLAYERS how can they call them away player, cos they are not playing.

was "away" today for the freeroll at 12.30, but not through choice.
sometimes there is a reason for it other than tactics.
ended up at a higher postion than the last time I played it aswell!
Not sure what that says but I am sure some one will!!!

I started a thread a while ago with this story but it fell off the front page within 2hrs.

I registered for an Omaha £55 Double Your Money in early July in error.  I later discovered that the game actually started nearly 24 hours later (not that popular it seems !) and I amazingly finished 2nd for a cool £45 profit.

Who says that cheats, sorry, away players, do not prosper ????

I often go "away" for 2 to 3 hands after losing a showdown.  It's my way of cooling down, not trying to gain any advantage from it.

I 'cheated' my way to the money in a freeroll once, 25p I think.
