One of those whaaaaaaaaaaaat-tf spots!! - Flop decision MTT

edited August 2010 in The Poker Clinic

Figured out now, why I struggle in some spots...

It's because I play on memory, and habit, and do what has worked previously.

However, in spots like this, I have very little experience to call upon, as they hardly ever happen!!!!

So have a look at this and see what u think.....what wud u do here??

Call. Raising turns your 9s into a bluff which is unnecessary because you might have the best hand. I don't like folding because you are only behind to TT+ and kings. I call and re-evaluate turn.

I would be raising here to take pot down right now while you still have the best hand, there are too many bad cards that can hit the turn. 825 is such a weak bet here and with a call behind, its such a good situation for a squeeze here to take pot down and make you chip leader at your table.

    i'd RR preflop

you flatted pre because? they can have OPs? if they have OPs they have full house, if they dont have purrrr our full house wins simples.

This happened to me a few weeks ago with JJ of course the guy had AK and I was crushed. Whats the odds of him having a K or an over pair to your 9s??? I have no idea.

it depends how many Kx hands he plays preflop, and how many times he plays weaker hands pre like suited connectors etc.

With you already having 2 players in the pot, i'd figure one of them has the case king and get out.

Against 1 I'd raise to see how strong he thinks his hand is.....  But then I am rubbish at this game ;o)

I decided it was just such a messy spot to be in against a v aggressive player and a very tricky player. Even tho I had position, if I got this hand wrong, it cud have been na-nites for dohh.

    Was pleased with the result.

Would you have played it the same if you were me beaneh?

i think if you have been active so far you should be betting the turn, phil is only going to have KQ/KJ for a better hand plus he has lots of smaller pairs.

isnt pre a bit too small for MP open? obv dont know how table has been playing and if they are pretty nitty then sure its fine

i imagine you are c/fing the river as played unless you know phil goes for thin value?
