isn't variance a........

edited September 2010 in Poker Chat
After running good the last couple of weeks, the last couple of days have been..........bad.
Always (well near enough) getting outdrawn or coming up against one of the few hands that can beat you.
Sometimes it has been good play, sometimes really bad and they got lucky.

Only bright point was last night when I got my first Royal Flush!! Yippeee!!!!

Still, well up for the month of August. Will take a break to regather and, hopefully, come out firing!

Good luck

    I think so.
I've taken on board people's suggestions - pre flop raising, betting 3/4 to pot sizes when hit or got the odds, folding when not.
An example - flopped trips and a flush draw, betted pot both times on flop and turn and got called. River they got the straight to win. Buy in gone.

In any case, it 's affecting my confidence so I'll take a break

I sometime think "Variance " is just another name for bad play,

I've been suffering the effects of variance for the last 13 years......... Sigh

    LOL

You are probably right to some extent with regard to my situation!!
No doubt I have played some hands bad, but also can't win a race even if my opponents were blindfolded and turned round so they went the wrong way!

I am improving (I think) after taking advice from those on here kind enough to give it. Had a downturn a couple of months ago , took a break, came back, and started winning again. Hopefully the same will happen.

But, as I said in the original post, it still has been a positive month or so and not doing much different from when I was winning I think. Just need a recharge.

I think you have to be measuring the results over 10,000s, if 100,000s of hands to get a true picture of variance

Variance you can judge via live poker it is alot different to trying to judge it with online poker
