Michael Wood's Story of England on BBC4 tonight has I hear got up to about 1200AD and is centered around the Kibworth Leics area.
Might be worth a look (if not tonight then surely next week's episode).....not much between Kibworth and Ilsen in them days I expect.....a couple of cows and the odd Inne.
I think the town cryers had the job of announcing "Ye olde All Ins on table three" back then.
Did i once see Tikkay in a final on tv go allin J5and lose, about 3yrs ago Posted by damienomen
Correct, or almost so. It was the Televised "London Poker Masters", £500 to enter (a lot of money back then), & we were Heads Up for the Win.
The 1st prize was £26k, runner up £15k, but we'd already done "business", & had agreed £20k each, & so we were playing it out for £1k (iirc) + the Trophy & bragging rights.
My oponent was a very fine player, John Curtis, very laggy, & had been stealing for England.
I made an attempted steal pre-flop with J-5, he looked me up with J-T I think. The Flop came J high, & that was that.
No complaints, I cashed for £20k, & as I was the sponsored Pro for the Sponsor of the Event, it was a freeroll for me.
Sadly, I had to give someone 20% of my winnings as a result of a rather bizarre convo hours before the event started, when a Norweigan friend insisted on buying 20% of me by way of thanks for some favours I had done for him. Marv.
Nice one gramps, good story aswell....... better then that train stuff you waffle on about ;o) Posted by YOUNG_GUN
Quite by chance, I was interviewing James "Flushy" Dempsey today, up at the EPT, & I recall he cashed in the same Event, 14th I think. Willie Tann finalled, as did a guy called Danny Samson, & Jim McShane, who remains a close friend to this day. He lives in Vegas now, mbn!
In Response to Re: Tikkay History : I remember sharing four of these with a mate about 15 years ago when I was at school. I loved that night speaking to god on the big white telephone!! Posted by Patching99
LOL m8, supping these when you were still at school. Quality lol.
