Call or value town?

edited October 2010 in The Poker Clinic
Pretty confident from the start person was on a draw, so I was waiting for the typical busted draw bet. However, when I have 2 pair including aces with a low pair, A9/AK etc are slowplayed options... should I flat this or push the rest? Am I likely to get called by a hand I'm beating?

that is a value bet he is betting on the river, just flat it imo

looks like a blocker bet to me.

If you have no reads, I wud flat this time and make a note, but then again, the guy only has a fiver behind.....ugh it's close....

Why check-call x 2 (no c/raise) then block bet the river?

Wouldn't be surprised to see a hand like King 9 of clubs. Blocking wit 89clubs doesnt rly make sense as your hand obviously includes an ace, so I think the villain wud just check fold (if he's any good)

One thing I would say, is bet more on the flop and the turn, making the river play a formality (wont have much left, and it obv all goes in)

well based on the thread he posted when he had quads, he lead for half pot sized bet on the river right? which makes me think he basically never has you beat

Flat call, your probably ahead but your hand is quite vulnerable! Just take the £10 pot! don't get too greedy! lol

Well, in the end I did flat, I came to the same conclusion- probably ahead, but a rr is unlikely to be called by much that I'm not beating, apart from possibly K9 clubs- I had pretty much put them on a fl draw, but A9 was certainly in my mind when the bet came in. I agree with dohhh in retrospect, normally I bet a little bigger but for some reason I was betting a little on the low side this time, I hate using the 1/2 and 3/4 pot size options because it looks too predictable to me, so I hit random amounts around that.

    I was close!

He only has a fiver bak, so you can't make a big mistake....

But I guess a mistake is a mistake, so caution is never gonna be such a bad thing here.

    nh, wp.

Saw u at 30nl earlier, u moved up now?

I thought I'd try my luck up the levels, but ran appallingly and lost a chunk on big hands- ran kings into a flopped set of 10's which knocked me down a buyin straight away, then a couple of times had 2 pair binked by flushes. I think I could cope at the higher levels, but my br isn't strong enough, so I'm gonna stay around the 5/10 limit for now I think. Had winning sessions all the times I played on the mastercash tables (just under 1 buyin the first two, and 1/4 buyin on the third- assuming you take the double normal max as a buyin) so I'll work at a relatively safe level before moving to 15/30 :)
