Perceptions

edited April 2011 in The Shed
Someone in the street just shouted at me "Major smackhead!" infact I have never taken any illegal drugs in my life. The reason I look the way I do is a mixture of Vertigo and depression.
I knew some people seemed to be looking at me stange and now I know what they are thinking. I dont feel as though I want to ever go out on my own again! I wish I was emotionally strong enough to stand up for myself but allas I am not.

Oh no dear donut, doesnt matter the slightest what you look like. most the time its probably paranoi

one of my best mates if not best had problem with depression last year and was very difficult, he'd call me at 1am saying can we go for drive etc. best thing to do is keep busy be positive, get your friends to do stuff with you and it will slowly go

personally i look like s h it half the time due to tiredness, exzema and other stuff i couldn't care less what people think or if they stare. probably all in your head mate

hope you get better soon mate

    regards
    John

lol also i go out and people think im 30ish when im 23 i just laugh dont let it affect me the slightest just need to get thick skin :P

maybe people only look at you because they recognise you from the Guinness Book of Records?

Holding the record for worlds biggest nose is nothing to be sniffed at! Cheer up!

     Definetly could be related!

I dont care what I look like! I just had a problem with not feeling like I could stand up for myself in the face of verbal abuse.
Your advice to cheer up! Was good advice but not something I know how to do so for now I will just have to find a way of dealing with being misrable.

You could be in the book of records Donut for being the only guy in the World who's left eye is an inch lower than his right eye !

    lol

And "standing up for yourself" to those sort of idiots is not only pointless, it's exactly what they want to see - you gettin upset/wound up.

Chin up fella - No need to go out now anyway tesco deliver your beer, and dominoes your snap!!

Just gotta win on the tables to pay for it! ;)

Not had a partner for a while and when I talk to my mate we tend to talk more about his problems. I have got an appiontment to see a "shrink" next Tuesday which at this moment in time is adding to my stress but hopefully will be benificial in the long run. I havent even played Poker for the last few days because my head is so messed up I cant concentrate the way my head is at the moment I would end up calling with an Orford striaght.

hi donut, keep your chin up, i went though depression in my early 20s and was put hospital for a while, yes it took me a few years to get myself self-convidence back, and luckly my friends as well as family where there for me, so just ignore those muppets on the street shouting dum things, it just mean they have no life and want to be noticed we are all here for you, on the picture front are you two part off quads, i`m thinking the chuckle brothers

jj not a good response kno bhead, if some guy is suffering depresion dont be making comments about there eyes or anything even if you put lol its bang out of order! im sure it was probably a joke but still shouldnt have put anything

If you here your mates problems alot, same as my mate did just tell em your not in a position to comment and have enough problems of your own they'll understand. best thing to do is  talk to someone, whether its your partner, friend, people on here you just need people to listen and need to get your confidence back.

Hope to see you at the tables soon bud chin up your a top man and dont let anyone tell you otherwise just ignore them no point biting back

    lol r u serious???

Jeeeez Im not gonna seriously pick on a guy who's admitted he's depressed by saying he's got wonky eyes am I !!

Ff s it's the angle at which the picture was taken !!!!

    Lighten up.

Note also that I offered a serious reply below. Im not a shrink, the best way to approach situations like this (and general life imo) is with a pinch of humour.

Apologies Donut if you were offended, but I don't believe for a 2nd u were.

    Good Luck.

I agree with JJ pinch of humour ftw, it made me chuckle :)

Take a picture whilst smiling Donut, i am sure it will look 100 times better.

If your positive in the inside it shows tenfold on the outside ;)

Nothing wrong with having a wonky eye

One of my balls hangs lower than the right and its never upset me

Donut if you was in my family you would be the best looking one... oh apart from my Auntie Bruce

The way I look does not matter!  Pretending to smile is not going to solve my state of mind.

    Hey honey,
People can be idiots and they don't help having attitudes like that!
You know where i am if u want me xxx

Donut..i know how you feel. i suffer from bi-polar disorder and depression and getting out and about can be a nightmare. I do try and get out for an hour, if only to walk round the block. Don't worry (although you probably will), about going to see a shrink...they don't bite and most are very good. All the advice and help you can want will be available so don't be afraid to grab all you can; no-one will condemn you for doing so. As for people calling you names...my way of dealing with this is to use an mp3 player, it really helps!!!
Best wishes to you mate. If you need a chat just PM me.

So you mean your not the real Mr Noisy?

  • edited October 2010
Donut, of the people that count in your life the persons who has the lowest opinion of you is the person that stares back in the mirror. My perception is that we all need people at times that we can relate to (maybe family maybe friends) and these are the people that will help you at this time. I like many who have replied to your thread have been depressed but I am lucky never to have been in the depths that some including yourself have found themselves in. Reach to those close to you they will be there for you

Hi Donut, sorry to hear you're not well. Sounds like you're doing the right thing by getting some professional help so make sure you go to that appointment.

With regards to the sad individuals that made those comments ....... you should worry m8! People who do that kind of thing are the one's with the problem ..... trust me on this I work with them. The bully is actually scared and that's why they bully others. The loudmouth suffers from low self esteem and so shouts to cover it up and deflect attention from their own shortcomings.

OK so you're having some problems at the minute but with some help you can and will improve. I won't say cheer up because I realise you can't, that's why your seeking help and you are spot on with that. We all hope you feel better soon.

BTW that picture is ok ........ now if you saw a pic of me (after a serious headbutt in the mouth by my dog) you'd definitely feel better. Like you I'm doing something about it with some serious dental work next week, the only difference is mine's going to cost £600 :o(

That's for me not the dog!!!  She just grinned and walked away and left me to pick up what was left of my front teeth. Bridge work is VERY expensive ......just ask Tikay he's a bridge specialist, I've heard.
