Weekend footy bettng (9th/10th)

edited October 2010 in The Football Corner
I'm sure I'm not the only one who hates the International breaks. No matter how hard I looked I just couldn't find anything in the Euro qualifiers that seemed remotely interesting. The strong nations are priced so short you'd have to stake your house just to get a fiver back & anything else is too much of a risk imo.

More importantly though these games eat into the domestic programme so there's less games in which to try & find some value. Thankfully this is the last international break until March now (although we've a friendly against France in November I'm 99% certain there's no break for that).

Anyhow, after a bit of digging, hopefully I've managed to find a winning bet or two for tomorrow.

Main Treble:

Southampton to beat Tranmere (H) @ 2/5
Port Vale to beat Hereford (A) @ 4/5
Rotherham to beat Stevenage (H) @ 11/10

These 3 are paying a nice 4/1

I don't often back teams with odds as short as 2/5 but given the lack of choice this weekend I think it's worth including Southampton in any bets. The saints have picked up of late having not lost in their last 4 league games. They won away at Sheffield Wednesday a few weeks back & beat Bournemouth at St Mary's last week. Tranmere have continued where they left off last season & currently find themselves 4th from bottom. They managed a point at home to leaders Brighton last weekend but on the road is a different story. They've won 1 from 5 so far this season & with their new found form I think Southampton will be too strong for them.
Port Vale thought they's snatched a point at Oxford last weekend with an injury time equaliser only to concede the winning goal straight away! That's the only points they've dropped on the road this season & they really should get back to winning ways at Edgar Street. Hereford are currently managerless & bottom of League 2. Their only victory in all competitions this season came on the opening day away to Crewe & they've lost their last 3 league games conceding 9 goals along the way. Port Vale may have let me down last week but I really can't see any other outcome in this one.
I can't believe that Rotherham are priced this big! They're at home to mid table Stevenage & this should be as straight forward as they come. Leading scorer Adam Le Fondre added to his tally last weekend with the equalising goal at Bury & in the form he's been in so far he should get another goal or 2 tomorrow. Stevenage have won 2 from 5 on the road so far although those have come at lowly Lincoln & rock bottom Hereford.

Massively Big Long Shot

Colchester/Huddersfield - DRAW @ 12/5
Peterborough to beat Hartlepool (A) @ 6/5
MK Dons to beat Dagenham (H) @ 5/6
Sheff Weds to beat Leyton Orient (H) @ 8/11
Bury/Accrington Stanley - DRAW @ 5/2
Cheltenham to beat Northampton (H) @ 11/8
Chesterfield to beat Southend (H) @ 4/5

This little lot is paying an enormous 353/1 so only a quid at stake here.

Huddersfield have lost the plot a bit recently having lost their last 3 in the league & they travel to a Colchester side who have drawn 7 of their 10 so far (4 at home).
Peterborough haven't been as strong on the road as they have at London Road so far but they won at Carlisle last time out & travel to Hartlepool who have won 1 & lost 3 of their 5 played at Victoria Park so far. I don't trust them enough to get the result to include them in my main bet but as part of a long shot it's a definite (particularly at this price).
Dagenham are yet to win on the road this season although they have drawn their last 2 at Charlton & Colchester. Milton Keynes are decent at Stadium:MK & as of yet haven't lost a league game there this season.
Wednesday are another side who seem to have turned the corner after a bad run. They won last time out at Notts Co & come up against an Orient side who have yet to win away from London this term.
Bury seem to be the draw specialists at home (3 from 5 at Gigg Lane so far) whilst Accrington are one of the divisions draw specialists on the road (4 from 5).
Cheltenham have been strong at Whaddon Road so far & only Bury have won there this season. Despite their heroics at Anfield Northampton have been poor this season. They've lost 3 of their last 4 in the league & their only win during those games was at home to 2nd bottom Bradford.  They've yet to win away from Sixfields in the league at all this season.
Chesterfield dropped their first points at the B2Net Stadium last week in that crazy 5-5 draw against Crewe last week. Southend have won 2 from 5 away from Roots Hall this season but they came against the divisions bottom 2 teams (Bradford & Hereford). I doubt they'll be anywhere near the 10 goals that were scored last week but Chesterfield should pick up the points here.

Happy betting peeps
