Thank-you Sky Poker - My first Primo experience.

As most of you will already know Sky very generously gave me a free entry into The Primo after I finished my recent charity walk.

There was a hitch last week and I didn't get entered in time, so it got re-arranged for last night. I've never played in The Primo before, doing so would break my self-imposed bankroll management rules, besides the tournament runs when I'm usually in bed asleep.

We started with a field of 508 runners, the top 60 finishers to share the prize pool of £15,240. In the first hour I played a tight patient game, though seeing as this was a freeroll for me I was always on the lookout for a spot to try and double-up, not too afraid of busting out with no money invested. That moment eventually came in a blind vs blind confrontation. It was a typical coin flip as we got all the chips in the middle preflop, my suited AK racing against QQ, I hit my K on the river and doubled. That gave me a decent stack to work with and I slowly increased it by playing a tight aggresive game. When the bubble was approaching I went card dead and decided to shut-up shop until we were in the money, happy just to min-cash. I shamelessly took plenty of time folding while I waited for others to bust out. When the bubble eventually went I was in 57th of 60 and had only 4 BB in front of me.

As soon as we were in the money I was ready to throw my chips in the middle and hope for the best. The very first hand post bubble I open shoved with K4o and got called by the big blind's AK. I thought I was out, but two 4s flopped and I sucked-out for the first and only time in my run. Soon after I doubled again with my pocket jacks holding up against A9, then again when I shoved with AJ and found a caller with AT. All of a sudden I was back up to a very playable stack. As the field thinned I had players like Cowgomoo, Gliterbabe and CoxyLBoro join my table, names I normally only ever see on TV.

Amazingly I somehow made it to the final table. By the time we got down to 4 handed I was the short stack. My downfall came when I decided to see a cheap flop in an unraised pot from from the SB with Jd Td, with hind-sight maybe I should have squeeze-shoved over the limpers instead of calling. The flop came 7d 6h 3d. With my flush draw and two overcards I pushed, unfortunately the caller held a higher flush draw than me with his 9d Qd, I was drawing thin and his cards quite rightly held up.

During the late stages I deliberately avoided looking at the prizes in the lobby in case they affected my decision making and just played for the win, I was absolutely astounded when it flashed up on the screen that I'd won £990.60 for 4th place. It was far more than I expected. If I can do it then anybody can, I'm a recreational tournament player and my average buy-in is just £1. My Sharkscope graph looks very nice now. Amazingly I made it to 4th without being dealt AA, KK or QQ once in the whole 4 hours. I didn't get to sleep until 1-00am, just 30 minutes before I had to get up for work, but I didn't really care after such a thrilling experience, the adrenhalin was more than enough to keep me going.

I would like to say a huge thank-you !!!!!!! to everybody at Sky Poker for putting me into the tournament, also to all of you who railed me towards the end. Congratulations to everybody who cashed, especially masheder01 who came back from something like 2 BB at the final table to take it down. My sporting opponents didn't complain once as I luckboxed my way through the field, so thanks alot to all of them too.

    :D

Absolutely delighted for you Gary, & lovely that you took the trouble to give us a TR, almost a first here in the circumstances, I think.

The mess-up last week, when you were not entered as promised, was down to me, & I apologise for that. Still, worked out OK, eh?

Great stuff Gary, I was watching your table from around 15 out....

How did you feel when you had cowgomoo, gliterbabe and coxy all in a row to your left? must have been pretty daunting!!

Your exit hand was also crazy btw, and have no idea what to make of your shove, and the guys call.

Maybe u can post it in the clinic? - I wanna know what the top tourny guys make of it, might help my own tourny game in the future.

    WD again, enjoy the money.

Cheers guys, thank-you all very much.

Tikay10  Still, worked out OK, eh?

Absolutely! It was obviously meant to be, I probably would've busted out in 10 minutes if I'd got in last week.

DOHHHHHHH How did you feel when you had cowgomoo glitterbabe and coxy all in a row to your left?

It was fine, didn't bother me at all, actually I quite enjoyed it. It's good to play the best rather than the sort of opponents I'm usually up against. Saying that, they didn't impress me much TBH, those guys were dropping like flies once the heat was on ;) I'll post that hand in the clinic shortly.

RICHORFORD I hope you're aware of the clause which states ..........

Damn! I forgot to sign the contract, then my dog ate it. Sorry about that.
