As played is there a value bet on the river or would that be a -ev play?

I had very little info on this villain and he hadn't been at the table very long. i decide to call in pos otf for obvious reasons and his turn bet looked like a typical blocker to see a cheap river which i find a lot at this level. i raise for value on the turn but when the river bricks and he checks to me is there any point in betting? on the turn i was thinking that he either had a draw or a big made hand so what am i getting value out of on the river realistically?

Firstly I'd pop it up on the flop to about 11, flushy and straightening ! And in this situation I would value bet, the board has paired (unless this guy has a 5) so you have 2 pair, and he could quite easily just have a pair of 9s, 89 (which you are beating), he could have been waiting on a flush, or even a straight. I'd still be betting about £20 here ....

i like your line, but how played it looks like you are def going to bet the river.. if he can see that then he will probly c/r all houses & straight on the river to get stacks in. As you dont know the villain well you cannot be sure if his small turn bet for pot control or to induca a raise.

having said that you are susceptible to a river check raise, i also think he can check call 10 10++ as well as some 9's if he is bad, you never know he may make a random hero call.

but given that he is rarely if ever going to c/r bluff the river i would hapily bet fold (if we were deeper), but as u have less than a potsize bet left its a jam or check only imo.

at nl 50 i jam his line looks alot like 10 10++ which prob stacks off enough to make this the best play

How the hell the money doesn't go in at one point on the above hand is strange!!!!

Regarding the hand this thread concerns... It was the villains turn bet that is the main talking point imo. In my mind that bet polarises his range some what to either a draw or a full house a huge percentage of the time. If he has an overpair on the flop why would he be betting £1 on the turn? it makes no sense. even if he has a random 9 the bet doesn't serve a purpose, granted i don't have info on the villain so it could just be some really weird play. So in other words, in betting the river am i not just getting him to fold all his missed draws or losing the rest of my stack when he has better than me??  And on very few occasions getting value? your thoughts.

i think he is hoping you just flat call his turn bet which makes me confident we almost always have the best hand
