Maxally (Alan), I think from previous chat you live in Stone, which is only 10 minutes down the road from me (Lightwood) in Stoke. Really want to do a SPT event in the near future but was just wondering if you and any other players who live nearby travel down together, etc. If so and you don't mind another coming along let me know. Cheers Posted by Lightwood
I've never played live & didn't manage to qualify for Luton last year (obviously, lol!) but I'm gonna have another go for Luton for this one & Cardiff ain't too bad a journey either.
In Response to Re: Sky Poker Tour Dates & Venues coming to a town near you soon...... : So do we, Don, but I think you miss the point. We WANT to come to Scotland, but it's not our fault that there are no suitable Venues. Our last 2 Venues in Scotland have not given the level of Service we consider necessary. In searching around, we found a recognized Venue in Glasgow at 1st Floor Level, but it had NO disabled access. Which is not acceptable to us. There's a nice Grosvenor, too - in Aberdeen! - which is way too far north for 95% of our players. It's NOT a question of not wishing to, the Venues need to be satisfy the default criteria. Thanks for the responce Tikay. In all honesty im glad that sky put such an effort into finding a good venue. Just a little disappointed theres nothing up here that meets that.
Although theres a well know Casino in Edinburgh the card room is below ground admittedly, i thought may have met requirements im sure the men in the know, know more than me.
Although, it would be nice to get something like DTD up here. Dont think we'll ever see it though.
If Glasgow met the criteria last year, (obviously it did to be chosen as a venue), then how come it didn't this year?? Have they regressed? Isn't it about time the SPT came to my back garden anyway??? Posted by DOHHHHHHH
Tikay has said that it wasnt up to standard jj, come luton instead mate you know it makes sense get your poker mojo back i reckon! same for fraser get to luton
It must have been up to standard to be chosen in the first place.
Sounds like the selection process for the venues is quite thorough, similar to the selection process for the Commonwealth Games venues.........So it couldn't have gotten in in the first place if it was no good.

Basically they must have thought it was up to scratch and after last year dont believe it is. which is fair as they dont want to lower their standard etc
At work mate otherwise would be in 2.20 good luck mate take it down!

The Venue disappointed us in a number of ways, I'm afraid.
We had to fight to get Chips for the SNG's, & they used the same set of chips in the side games as were being used in the Main Event, which is a BIG no-no, & should NEVER be done, as it easily leads to cheating. (DTD use FIVE different sets of chips to enable parallel Tourneys to be run safely).
There was a major delay when we got down to 3 Tables, as we went on a 10 minute break, got all the players back in their seats on time (it's very important to run these things in an efficient & timely manner) but the Dealers never returned for 40 minutes, so our players were sat twiddling their thumbs at a crucial stage of the Event. Bang out of order.
We were re-located "upstairs" midway through the Tourney, ostensibly for our benefit, but in fact it was to allow the Casino to have a Cabaret Evening in the space we occupied.
The PA system (for commentary) was not up to scratch, though that's a problem we faced elsewhere, & indeed, at Blackpool last weekend. (We plan to buy our own PA System now, as this unreliability is not acceptable to us, the Commentary is an integral part of an SPT Event.
The SPT Management Team reviewed everything after the Event, we hold a sort of Post-Mortem to see how SPT's go, & decided we would not return there again until they get their act together. In truth, the Venue was not really what I would all a "poker Venue", but until we try it, we never know, despite the fact that Karaoke Tighty gets eveything agreed in writing.
For the same sort of reasons, we will not be returning to Aspers Swansea in the foreseeable future, though fortunately, we have found a suitable Venue in nearby Cardiff. Or we think we have......
There's rather more to running these Events than first meets the eye, but we are determined to offer the best possible Customer experience, & atmo, at every SPT. If the Venues don't maker the effort for us, then we will not give them our business. Remember, we have to pay the Venues a considerable lump of money to hold our Event there - I'm talking thousands of pounds - & as we are the Customer, & our players are our Customers, we want it "just so".
So there you go. We tried the Venue, it failed, & so we won't be going back.
It was a shame about the pa system in blackpool, TK on the mic makes the day so much more than just a poker tourney, but it is always fun to meet up will fellow players and i look forward to being at most if not all of the spt's this year.

Well I'd like to take that as my opening to apologise for it's absence in Blackpool, we hold the view that the Commentary (no matter who actually does it) is central to the enjoyment of many at a TSP, so we were all pretty cross that it was not possible, & it took the shine off an otherwise wonderful day.
In addition, I never got to abuse "the boyz", fml. I mean, really, the mock abuse is half the fun, though I have to be VERY careful as to who I direct it at, as some get incredibly uppity about SPT odds & ends, like you would not believe. So I restrict it to my friends. And Dylan.
Many congrats on a fine effort in Blackpool, Sir, I was delighted for you. Did you outlast Daiboot? Bonus Points if you did, obv.

Is that in their contract, are the TSP players aware of this clause?
