What are your thoughts...

Hey guys,

Long time no speak!

Basically I want to know your views on this. I was in a Live tournament at Casino the other day. It was one of these Pub League's Finals so there was 253 runners.

The average was about 18k and I was sitting on 35k..

I get Pocket 2's in mid position so I limp for 1,600...Folds round to the Small blind who raises to 3.4k...BB folds so I decide to peel off a flop hoping to catch a set.

Flop comes down 2 J 8..

This guy bets 7k in to me...

I put on a hollywood and KNOW this type of player is going to call me if I make a move on this flop so I decide to push for the remaining 30k.

I hear him say "Call"...a couple others at the table heard him say "Call" aswell so I turned over my 22's quickly...

As he has his hands on his chips he looks at the board to see what I have and then says "No No, I didn't say Call, I said Did you say call?!"

At this point Im going crazy hoping the rest of the table will pipe up and back me up...I call the card room supervisor over and the ruling is that the other player can have the decision on what action to take because I have shown my cards!? He obviously decided to fold and showed K J....So he hit top pair with a strong kicker..

By the way he had me out chipped...so if I took that pot it would of been about 70k when the average is only 18k!! - I ended up going out 27th/253 which was 2 off of cashing!

What you guys think about that? Is that right?

That sounds scandalous! and the dealer and td should hang their heads in shame imo

He verbally declared "i call" as heard by others on the table, so his declaration should stand.

v unlucky. Btw with regards to your preflop play (not that it made any difference on this occasion) i dont like an open limp with 22 and those blinds and stack, its a raise or fold for me.

It is best to wait for the dealer to start gathering in your opponants chips before flipping what you assume is the best hand though.

Shoulda got them to check the video.  I'm fairly sure that there are microphones above all tables in casinos.

You only need to concern yourself that ONE person heard the player say "Call" - the Dealer. Everyone else's view is irrelevant.

He may have said "call", he may not have. It's not relevent.

Other players may or may not say they heard him. It's irrelevant.

You only need concern yourself with what the DEALER thinks, or heard. Nobody else.

In these spots, BEFORE you turn your hand over, ALWAYS make eye-contact with the Dealer, to make sure he has heard the call, & ask the Dealer  - "is that a Call?".

It's the tough lesson which you only need to be taught once in your poker career. If there is an angle, some clever so & so will shoot it.

It can't happen in Online poker, of course, but when you play Live, you need to have your wits about you. Protect your hand (in it's widest sense) at ALL times.

Unlucky, but it may turn out to be a cheap lesson in the long run.

    Thanks for the comments guys.

Problem is because this was not a BIG MAIN event for Luton G Casino it was ALL self dealt until the final table...

But your right, definitely a lesson learnt and I'll wait till chips are in the middle next time!

Just wanted to share because I was steaming at the time!
