this is never bad. you have top set.

however you may get paid more playing this hand slower due to there not being many hands out that can pay you.

this guy with his draw has paid you because more often than not he'll miss just so happens this time he got there. tis all skill....

    Thanks beaneh,
Put aggressor on 2 pair or over pair, thought I'd get a call.
Never had other on lower set, did that call give aggressor the odds?

For me it's a good example of why shorting rarely ever works- you don't get to factor fold equity in anywhere near as much.

For example, if you're sat with the full 8 there, you can reraise on flop to 2 quid or so, then jam any turn. Chances are the guy now folds (possibly not, but that's a good thing long term) and you've taken down a solid pot with no drama. Of course, you'd lose more when he calls and rivers his card, or on the occasions when he turns it, but remember- straight draw on the flop only hits ~32% of the time, so more than 2 in 3 occasions you're winning the hand. 2 in 3 times you're at least doubling up.

Getting your chips in with the best hand (and your hand is, at that point, unbeatable) is never ever a bad thing. But try and play with a full stack IMO, and if it's too expensive to do that- drop down a level.

If you've just lost a large pot, simply pull back up to maximum, no fuss. I don't think there's ever a good reason to sit with less than 90% of the maximum buyin at a table.

I haven't looked at the stacks becuase I always get them wrong anyway. but if there is already a call inflating the pot he will be getting better odds. if another 2 people go all in for the same amount he has a massively profitable call.

Thanks deucesLive, will give that more thought in future.
I was above average stack when I sat down with 4,
the table was quite loose with relatively large pots,
the two opps in the hand had recently doubled-up to 6/7.
